On October 31, the Transport Hospital informed about a special case, doctors successfully removed a giant tumor that a man had carried on his shoulder for 5 years.
The patient is Mr. Ngo Trong H. (41 years old, Nha Trang City, chef). Mr. H. said that he has had a tumor in his shoulder area for 5 years now. Initially, the tumor was small but gradually increased in size, causing his right shoulder to swell and become disproportionate.
Recently, Mr. H. saw that the tumor was growing rapidly, causing pain and affecting his mobility, so he went to the Transport Hospital for examination.

The tumor growing on the patient’s shoulder was as big as a grapefruit. After surgery, the removed tumor weighed up to 1.5kg (Photo: Provided by the hospital).
Dr. Bui Sy Tuan Anh, Director of the Transport Hospital, Head of the General Surgery Department, assessed that this was a complicated case, with a large tumor that had developed over many years, causing shoulder deformity and seriously affecting the patient's daily life and work.
Based on the results of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and clinical examination and testing, doctors diagnosed the patient with a giant soft tissue tumor in the right shoulder area, requiring surgery to avoid complications of muscle, blood vessel and nerve compression.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Bui Sy Tuan Anh, along with the surgeons of the Department of Surgery and the anesthesia and resuscitation team. During the surgery, the doctors carefully separated and removed the entire tumor weighing about 1.5 kg, while preserving the maximum muscle, blood vessel and nerve structures in the shoulder area to ensure the patient's mobility.
After surgery, the patient recovered well, the incision was dry, not much pain, the patient could move and move his arm normally again.
Dr. Bui Sy Tuan Anh said that giant soft tissue tumors are rare diseases. If not treated early, they can cause compression of important structures, even necrosis or loss of limb function.
With close coordination between specialists, the surgery was successful, ensuring both aesthetic and motor function for the patient.
Doctors recommend that people should not be subjective. When they see unusual lumps or tumors, they should go to the doctor early to detect and treat the disease (if any), to avoid the tumor growing large, causing many health risks.
