Coach Ruben Amorim: “Some players will leave Man Utd”

(Dan Tri) - Coach Ruben Amorim said he is ready to face the possibility that some of Man Utd's players who rarely play will ask to leave the team next January, especially in the context of the 2026 World Cup approaching.

Two notable names are Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee, who have had very little playing time for Man Utd this season. Both are concerned that their lack of regular playing time will affect their chances of playing for England and the Netherlands at next summer's World Cup.

According to inside sources, Mainoo had applied to leave the team at the end of the summer transfer window but was rejected by the Man Utd leadership. However, coach Amorim admitted that they could continue to offer to leave in January.

“A lot can happen in the winter transfer window,” he said. “With the World Cup approaching, some players are not playing and they want to leave. I have to be prepared to deal with that situation.”

The Portuguese coach affirmed that the club is aiming for a strategy of recruiting players to serve long-term plans but also does not rule out the possibility of strengthening the squad if there is a suitable opportunity.

“We want to bring in players who can be with Man Utd for a long time. I don’t rush into buying someone just because I see a shortage in a certain position in the future. We want contracts with vision, not constant changes. However, if January has the opportunity to improve the squad, we will consider it.”

At 10pm today, Man Utd will visit Nottingham Forest in the 10th round of the Premier League. Before this match, the statement of coach Sean Dyche (when he was unemployed) criticizing coach Amorim's tactics was suddenly "dug up" again.

The new Nottingham coach has claimed that he could help Man Utd win more matches if he used a 4-4-2 formation, instead of the Portuguese coach's 3-4-2-1 system.

Responding to this comment, Coach Amorim said: “First of all, maybe he is right. If we played with a 4-4-2 formation, who knows, we would win more. But I have my own philosophy, and I believe that over time, the team will get better.

As a commentator, if he doesn't say something big, no one wants to listen. I understand that and I don't take it personally. Sean Dyche is a smart coach, he knows the difference between commentating and managing a team."

Amorim also praised Nottingham under coach Dyche: "I watched them play against Porto and Bournemouth. The style is similar, just a few different characteristics. We need to prepare for a difficult match, especially when playing away, where every challenge creates momentum for the opponent."

Ahead of the match against Nottingham, Man Utd are in good spirits after winning three consecutive Premier League matches against Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton. This is the Red Devils' longest winning streak under coach Amorim. That helps the club rise to 6th place in the rankings with 16 points, 6 points behind the leader Arsenal.
