Mr. Phuc said that he is a photographer. At around 9am on May 24, on his way home from work, he saw a crowd of people gathered on the Thach Han bridge. When he asked, he learned that there was a woman drowning in the river.
Through observation, he saw that the distance from the bridge to the river was too high, so he ran around to the North bank of Thach Han River to ask someone whose boat was anchored there for help.
He was then taken by two people with a boat to the area where the woman was in distress. Approaching the victim, Phuc stripped off her clothes and jumped into the water. He then pulled the woman face up and pressed her against the side of the boat to get to shore. The woman was then given first aid and taken to the hospital for treatment, her health gradually stabilizing.
“I am not a good swimmer, but when I see someone in trouble, I try to help without thinking too much. Saving people is important, it is a normal thing. I was assisted by two people on the boat named “Cu Anh” and a local man about 50 years old,” Phuc added.
Previously, Quang Tri Newspaper reported that at around 9:00 a.m. the same day, many people passing by Thach Han Bridge in An Don Ward, Quang Tri Town discovered a woman stopping her motorbike on the bridge and suddenly jumping into the river. When some witnesses shouted, a man quickly jumped into the river to rescue her. Afterwards, An Don Ward Police verified the identity of this person to propose a reward.
