Ms. A Viet Thi Bich (Ra E village) previously only had income from growing acacia and farming, but acacia prices were unstable and storms caused trees to fall. In 2021, Ms. Bich received support from the local government for 10 piglets of grass seeds, along with a loan of 100 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to develop the economy.
Ms. Bich shared: “With support, my family dug a fish pond, built a solid pigsty, then bought a few breeding cows and planted fruit trees to make the most of the garden land. Up to now, pig farming has been maintained stably, selling about 3 batches of pigs each year, each batch of more than 15 pigs, earning more than 80 million VND. In 2023, my family will officially escape poverty, and our livelihood foundation will become more and more solid.”

Not only reducing poverty sustainably, people of Song Kon commune also boldly invest in economic models from their inherent potential. Over the past 3 years, Mr. Po Loong Niem (Ra Dung village) has implemented a garden - pond - barn model with 4 fish ponds with an area of over 2,000m2 to raise snakehead fish, carp, and grass carp; at the same time, he also raises cows, pigs, and more than 200 chickens and plants 100 durian trees and other fruit trees.
“Previously, this land was only used for growing rice and other crops, with low economic efficiency, so I decided to renovate it to develop a garden economy. When I did this, I received support from the government under Resolution No. 35 of the People’s Council of the former Quang Nam province with an amount of 80 million VND, and was also trained in livestock and tree planting techniques.
With so much potential, in the near future, I plan to plant 5,000 more areca trees, expand the free-range chicken flock to 300-500 and release about 10,000 more fish to make the most of the area," said Mr. Niem.

Mr. Do Huu Tung, Chairman of Song Kon Commune People's Committee, said that after implementing the two-level local government, the commune immediately started implementing the tasks of the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. From the resources of the national target programs, Song Kon has supported house building, infrastructure repair, and sustainable livelihood diversification for the people.
In particular, people's awareness of poverty reduction has changed significantly. In the coming time, the locality will continue to promote propaganda and mobilize people to develop existing models such as raising pigs, raising cows, raising deer for velvet, community tourism , planting large timber forests and raising fish in cages... to develop a sustainable economy.
