On the morning of November 13, the outdoor temperature in Hanoi dropped to nearly 20 degrees Celsius, with rain.
From 7am, Nguyen Trai Street (from Ha Dong to Nga Tu So) was packed with cars and motorbikes. In the area opposite the gate of Hanoi University (Thanh Xuan District), the number of vehicles increased and was congested in the direction from Ha Dong District to Thanh Xuan.
Mr. Quang Anh (residing in Thanh Oai, Ha Dong) said that the heavy rain and sharp drop in temperature made his hands freezing cold.
“The rain and strong wind sometimes caused my raincoat to fly away, so I couldn’t go fast. Traveling nearly 15km from Thanh Ha Urban Area to Xa Dan Street in this weather was quite difficult for me,” said Quang Anh.
At Thanh Xuan underpass, traffic congestion has been occurring in the direction from Ha Dong to Thanh Xuan. The two car lanes occupy more than half of the roadway, forcing motorbikes to weave in and out of traffic in a "fill-in-the-blank" manner.
Nguyen Trai Street (the section leading up to the Nga Tu So overpass) was also crowded with vehicles. There were 4-5 rows of cars inching their way up to the Nga Tu So overpass. Many people drove onto the sidewalk to avoid traffic jams.
In the opposite direction, traffic congestion also occurred seriously. Traffic was backed up for nearly 2km.
Chua Boc Street is also in a similar situation with heavy traffic in both directions. Traffic police have a hard time regulating traffic.
