Previously, Folk Singer was estimated to fetch between 650,000 and 970,000 USD by Sotheby's. Nguyen Phan Chanh completed the work in 1930 in oil on canvas measuring 90.5 cm x 102.5 cm. This is also the second work by Nguyen Phan Chanh to reach the million USD mark after the painting The Tailors (Les Couturières) which was priced at 1.39 million USD on Christie's at the end of 2020. With this price, Folk Singer has entered the top 20 most expensive Vietnamese paintings, alongside works by Le Pho, Mai Trung Thu, Le Quoc Loc, Pham Hau, To Ngoc Van, Nguyen Gia Tri, Vu Cao Dam, and Nguyen Van Ty.
