After the match, the 26-year-old player said: "Overcoming the pressure of playing on Thailand's field, the whole team tried their best to achieve this victory. I am very happy to score in a dramatic and emotional match."
Talking about the resilient fighting spirit of the Vietnamese players after the opponent equalized, the striker of Hanoi Club shared: "We always encourage each other to move forward to win, as a gift for our injured teammates in this tournament. Xuan Son is an excellent, enthusiastic teammate and it is a pity that he could not play the entire match due to injury."
Defeating Thailand with a total score of 5-3, the Vietnamese team won the ASEAN Cup (previously called AFF Cup, Tiger Cup) for the third time in history.
The Vietnamese team dominated the individual awards: Striker Nguyen Xuan Son won a double of individual awards: Best Player of the Tournament and "Top Scorer" with 7 goals. Goalkeeper Dinh Trieu received the title of Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
