Doctor Duong Quoc Viet - Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases - Neurology, An Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital said: "The hospital is treating 10 inpatient cases of dengue fever. Currently, there is no specific medicine for dengue fever, doctors treat according to the Ministry of Health 's treatment regimen. This disease often becomes severe on the 4th and 5th day. When a child's condition becomes severe on the 3rd day, the prognosis is very serious and requires special care."

Since the beginning of the year, An Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has received 823 outpatients for dengue fever examination and 552 inpatients, of which 167 cases had dengue fever with warning signs and 97 were severe. Doctor Viet shared: "Previously, the hospital received very few severe cases, most of the patients were hospitalized early when symptoms were detected."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh, a resident of Long Xuyen ward, who is taking care of her son at An Giang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, said: “When my son had a high fever, vomited, and had a nosebleed, my family went to a private doctor to get medicine, but he did not get better and had a high fever. I took him to the hospital for examination, and the result was that he had dengue fever. He was hospitalized and is now much healthier.”

Mrs. Tran Thi Nhi, resident of Binh Duc ward, said: “My 14-year-old grandchild had a fever. My family bought fever-reducing medicine for her, but she kept getting feverish and then it came back. Her hands and feet were sweating cold for several days in a row. On the 5th day, my family took her to the hospital and found out she had dengue fever. After 2 days of treatment, her health has stabilized.”

To prevent dengue fever and avoid serious complications, Vietnamese doctors recommend that people should monitor their health. When they have symptoms of suspected illness such as sudden high fever, headache, rash, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, abdominal pain, etc., they should promptly go to a medical facility for examination and treatment to avoid serious complications. At the same time, they should proactively get vaccinated against dengue fever.

Dr. Tran The Vinh - Director of the Provincial Center for Disease Control said: “The province strengthens the dengue fever surveillance system at all levels; organizes training courses to guide units and localities in monitoring, detecting and handling dengue cases and outbreaks. We promote communication to raise public awareness of the risk of dengue fever outbreaks and measures to prevent and control the disease. Encourage people to actively implement personal disease prevention measures to avoid mosquito bites; check water containers in and around the house once a week, remove larvae when detected.”

Doctor Tran The Vinh recommends that dengue fever is transmitted by mosquito bites, so the most effective way to prevent the disease is to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. People should wear long-sleeved shirts when gardening, farming, or doing outdoor activities; use incense, mosquito repellent spray, sleep under mosquito nets even during the day, keep the house airy; do not hang sweaty clothes in the house to avoid attracting mosquitoes. Finding and destroying mosquito larvae to prevent them from becoming disease-transmitting mosquitoes is also very important. Measures to find and destroy mosquito larvae can be implemented by releasing guppies into large jars and lakes; regularly rinsing and cleaning jars, pots, and clean water containers in the house; turning upside down objects that are at risk of stagnant water around the house; putting residual oil and salt on ant-proof legs, old tire tires, etc.

Since the beginning of the year, the whole province has had 5,063 cases of dengue fever, a two-fold increase compared to the same period in 2024; of which, An Cu commune has 211 cases, Phu Quoc special zone has 169 cases, An Phu commune has 165 cases. The whole province has recorded 1,632 outbreaks, of which Chau Doc ward has 74 outbreaks, Vinh Hau commune has 61 outbreaks, An Phu commune has 60 outbreaks.
