The risk of subsidence and landslides still occurs under the Co Chien River.

(VLO) The recent land subsidence under the Co Chien River in An Thanh Hamlet, An Binh Commune, Long Ho District has caused many households living here to worry and feel insecure because the risk of subsidence and landslides still shows signs of continuing to occur.

According to the People's Committee of An Binh commune (Long Ho district), on the morning of April 4, a landslide occurred under the Co Chien river in An Thanh hamlet, An Binh commune.

Accordingly, the location of the land subsidence is in front of Hoa Hiep fish sauce private enterprise, in front of Mr. Dang Van Nhu's house and Mrs. Le Minh Mai Trang's house; Mr. Dang Van Bach's house; about 15m from the bank of the Co Chien river and about 80m out to the middle of the river, 100m along the bank of the Co Chien river. At the location of the river subsidence, there is no sand mining site at the location of the land subsidence. The land subsidence affected more than 10 wooden stakes for anchoring 12 fishing boats and 1 anchor buoy was sunk.

Specifically, in the current situation of the subsidence and landslide area, there is a house of Le Minh Mai Trang built about 12m towards the river and a house of Dang Van Nhu built a shop 10m towards the river, located in the dangerous area (current status of the house on the river side, the embankment has not shown any cracks).

Uncle Dang Van Nhu worriedly said: “There has never been a landslide here before. Now the land has collapsed and slid outwards. The local government has also warned and encouraged people to move their belongings to the inside of the bank. I have complied, and I do not dare to stay outside anymore.”

Besides, Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu also shared: “The subsidence and landslide happened very quickly, sinking the buoys for anchoring, causing 4 boats to drift. Then, the water rolled up, it was very dangerous. I was so scared that I moved my assets to the shore. Because it was under the riverbed, it was difficult to predict the next situation. I also monitored it regularly but was worried that there would be more subsidence and landslides, so I had to be very careful.”

The subsidence point directly affects 4 households.

Vice Chairman of An Binh Commune People's Committee Nguyen Huu Phuoc said: There are 4 households living directly within the landslide area. Within a radius of 500m from Ba Vu estuary and towards An Binh ferry terminal, there are about 25 houses on the shore where people are living.

Currently, the situation of land subsidence is still at risk of happening again. Accordingly, the locality has also surveyed, recorded the situation, warned households in the area to regularly monitor and proactively move their residences and assets to a safe place when a bad situation occurs. At the same time, there are forces in a proactive position when a bad situation occurs to promptly help people.

Mr. Ho The Nhu - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Long Ho district said: After receiving the report, the Department of Agriculture and the working group came to survey, used manual depth measuring equipment and determined the average depth from the shore to be 18m (elevation -2.5 to -3m), the depth from the shore to be about 23m (elevation -7 to -8m), the average difference is about 5m, creating a deep step towards the river, the location of the anchoring pillars is within the step range causing subsidence and landslides into the river.

The possibility of subsidence and landslides is forecasted to still occur. The Department also recommends that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development have a plan to survey and evaluate the subsidence and landslide areas, to warn of long-term solutions.

According to the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, after the collapse and landslide occurred, the relevant agencies and localities conducted a survey of the collapse and landslide locations, assessed the extent of damage, and proposed solutions.

Specifically, inform people in the area about the situation of subsidence and landslides and regularly monitor the development of subsidence and landslides in this area to have timely response measures. Mobilize households in the area affected by subsidence and landslides to move their assets to a safe place to avoid damage if subsidence and landslides continue to occur.

At the same time, continue to monitor the situation of subsidence and landslides in the above-mentioned area; make statistics, assess damage and prepare documents to submit to competent authorities to support people according to regulations (if any).
