Graduated from the University of Traditional Musical Instruments, Vietnam National Academy of Music (2025), An Nhu not only mastered the zither but also learned bamboo flute, piano and classical violin. For her, music is not only art, but also a journey of self-discovery, healing and spreading good things.

The door of music opened from an incident

An Nhu's chance to come to music started from an incident. After an accident that left her permanently blind when she was only 11 months old, her mother became her support, the first person to open the door to music for her. "My mother was the one who helped me find a teacher, then registered me to study zither at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School. At first it was just out of curiosity, but later it became a great passion," An Nhu said.

From that simple class, the dream of entering the Conservatory of Music began to grow in the mind of the little girl when she was just an elementary school student. In the 6th grade, that dream came true. An Nhu passed the entrance exam to the Conservatory, opening a new chapter in her life.

She is grateful to the teachers for their enthusiasm and willingness to explore suitable teaching methods for the visually impaired. "The longer I study at the Conservatory, the happier I am," she said. With more than a decade of working with the Faculty of Traditional Instruments, An Nhu has proven that passion and perseverance can overcome all barriers.

Inner strength and gratitude

For An Nhu, each musical instrument is a different way of expression. If the zither and bamboo flute help her find her Vietnamese identity, the piano and violin open the door to Western music. It is this harmony that has brought her to many stages at home and abroad, from Thailand, India to art projects in Vietnam and Italy - where melodies become a language that connects people.

Her world is not perceived by sight, but by hearing and touch. “With the zither, the hearing must be focused to know how the notes sound, the feeling of the hand must remember the position of the strings, and the muscle memory of the hand must be trained. With the bamboo flute, the breath column, jaw muscles and fingers must be flexible, requiring a long time of practice.” As for the piano, she must memorize all the notes and music to be able to play fluently. Meticulousness, patience and absolute concentration have helped An Nhu conquer each note, turning invisible sounds into tangible works of art.

The young girl always keeps positive energy and a smile on her lips.

In that journey, family is still a strong support. “Not every family is brave enough to let their children enter the artistic path. But my parents believed, loved and helped me overcome all fears,” An Nhu said emotionally. For her, being visually impaired is not a disadvantage, but an opportunity to live more deeply, focus more and contribute more.

Fulfill your dreams and be completely happy

For the young girl, music is not only art, but also a way to communicate, connect and heal. "Music helps me connect with many friends, have more relationships," she confided. Moreover, music is also a way for her to heal in every moment of conflict, helping her listen, calm down and be more emotionally diverse.

Besides music, An Nhu also has another special passion: dancing. "At first, I thought dancing was only for beautiful people, wearing dresses and high heels," she laughed. She has been involved in this sport for 5 years, participating and achieving high results in competitions of the Blind Sports Dance Club.

Looking to the future, An Nhu has many plans. She wants to find projects to develop her career and live on her salary. She also wants to learn more about Western musical instruments, study English, French, and Italian to take graduate exams and get a master's degree at the Academy.

"Happiness" for An Nhu is defined in a very simple but extremely profound way: "Every day I can breathe, smile with my loved ones, do what I like, learn and protect the good in myself. Happiness is also being able to bring any musical product or guitar technique to everyone, without fear of judgment."

For Nguyen An Nhu , music is not only art but also a way to communicate, connect and heal.

As someone who has gone through many challenges but always smiles, An Nhu has a message to send to young people facing difficulties: "Let's cherish the time we are living, let's do something to treat our lives and bodies well, because at a certain age, we will need to rest and cannot contribute forever."

An Nhu has proven that when we live with all our passion and gratitude, life will naturally play a beautiful melody. An Nhu's story is proof that light does not only come from the eyes but also from the faith and desire to live in each person.
