Two young champions return to defend their titles
As soon as registration opened on July 23, the tournament received great attention from the Vietnamese golf community, with nearly 100 athletes quickly signing up. Most notably, the return of the two 2024 champions Nguyen Duc Son (male) and Le Chuc An (female).
At Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong last season, Nguyen Duc Son, then 17 years old, created a convincing victory with a total score of 282 strokes (-6). He surpassed a series of strong opponents such as Nguyen Nhat Long (champion in 2023), Nguyen Huu Quyet, Truong Chi Quan or Doan Van Dinh, golfers leading the prize money rankings of VGA Tour 2023.
In the women's category, Le Chuc An, only 16 years old, made history by becoming the first golfer to successfully defend the women's championship title of the tournament. She finished with a total score of +1, 2 strokes ahead of Nguyen Viet Gia Han and 3 strokes ahead of Ngo Vinh Hoa, after a dramatic race that lasted until the final holes.
"The championship is the motivation for me to continue trying every day and aim for the goal of winning the National Golf Championship three times," Le Chuc An shared with Tien Phong newspaper after the championship.
With remarkable growth in both technique and competitive mentality, Chuc An promises to continue to be a bright face on the journey to defend the throne. If she continues to step up to the highest position, she will set an unprecedented record by becoming the first golfer to win the title three times in a row.
Gathering the best faces
Besides the two defending champions, this year's tournament also welcomes the participation of a series of national players: Nguyen Tuan Anh, Nguyen Trong Hoang, Le Minh Nghia, Do Duong Gia Minh, Tran The Bao, Ha Nam Khanh, Nguyen Bao Phat, Nguyen Viet Gia Han, Doan Xuan Khue Minh, Tran Arena...
The presence of a series of national players will certainly create significant challenges for Nguyen Duc Son and Le Chuc An's journey to defend the throne.
In the men's group, Duc Son will face talented opponents such as Nguyen Tuan Anh (2024 runner-up), Nguyen Trong Hoang (who just won the 2025 World Stars Junior Golf Championship in the US) or Le Minh Nghia, Do Duong Gia Minh, Tran The Bao or Ha Nam Khanh, names ready to cause surprises.
In the women's group, the pressure on Le Chuc An is also not small. Faces like Nguyen Viet Gia Han - last season's runner-up, Doan Xuan Khue Minh - a veteran golfer with many years of experience in major tournaments, former national player Le Thi Thanh Thuy, or promising young talent like Tran Arena, promise to create fierce competition.
The National Golf Championship, VinFast Cup - Gia Lai 2025 will officially start from August 18 to 23 at FLC Golf Links Quy Nhon (Gia Lai). Golfers will compete in stroke play format over 4 rounds, each round of 18 holes (total of 72 holes). After the first 36 holes, the organizers will make the cut, selecting the 50 male golfers and 12 female golfers with the best results for the last 2 rounds. The champion is the one with the lowest gross score after 4 days of competition.
