Own international scientific works

Dr. Tran Le Hung is currently a lecturer at the Paris School of Engineering, Gustave Eiffel University, France. In his journey of pursuing his passion for scientific research in the railway industry, he has had many outstanding international achievements. He is the main author of 23 scientific publications, including 18 publications as main author and 5 publications as co-author. Of these, 13 scientific publications are in prestigious international journals (in the SCIE, Q1 category); 9 scientific publications at specialized international conferences in France, the US, Canada, Greece and Russia (as a keynote speaker).

He has participated in research cooperation and established a strong research group in the railway field.   with professors at the University of Bridges and Roads of Paris, France; participated in collaborative research on materials and applications in metallurgy with professors at the University of Paris 6 (France) and had an international publication; participated in collaborative research on artificial intelligence (AI) and applications in the railway industry with professors at the University of Canberra (Australia), had an international publication...

In particular, his scientific work on researching and developing smart integrated sleepers, applying high technology in railway maintenance and repair (especially high-speed railways), has been commercialized in the French and European markets.

"With the application of high technology, the integrated sleeper allows to accurately determine the train load, predict the deterioration of the roadbed, and support the work of developing maintenance plans with the most economical cost. Moreover, by applying AI technology (through big data processing), it will allow to more accurately predict the road sections that need to be repaired (this is a project that has been and is being planned to be implemented with the University of Bridges and Roads of Paris, France and has very high applicability when brought to Vietnam. The estimated value of the project is more than 1.5 billion VND", said Mr. Hung.

According to Mr. Hung, our country has many mountains and hills, so railway maintenance will take a lot of effort. This research project helps replace human labor, just using sensors attached to the rails, sleepers to survey the rock layer or train load. From there, it is possible to analyze and predict how long it will take to maintain or immediately detect problems with the train's load, technology, etc.

The first software produced by Vietnamese people

Mr. Hung also said he was very happy that Vietnam had just restarted the North-South high-speed railway construction project. "It is known that the project aims to build a modern, synchronous high-speed railway line, meeting transportation needs, creating an important driving force for rapid and sustainable socio-economic development, promoting advantages on the North-South economic corridor, ensuring effective connection between the East-West corridors and with countries in the region, in conjunction with ensuring national defense, security and international integration, protecting the environment, responding to climate change, promoting the process of industrialization and modernization of the country. Therefore, I am very excited to bring my research work to apply in Vietnam," Mr. Hung shared.

Mr. Hung is also the author of the research software "KD-Railway" ver2 using AI to optimize the cross-section design of high-speed railway bridges (a product of the Ministry of Transport project, which has been accepted and verified by an independent council). The software uses AI to optimize the cross-section of railway trains, which is the premise for the construction of the North-South high-speed railway and is the first software produced by Vietnamese people. This software allows proactive design, does not depend on foreign countries, does not cost money to hire experts, and gives fast and accurate results. It is estimated that it will save Vietnam about 3 billion VND.

Evaluating this scientific work, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc (Head of the Department of Construction and Transport Technology, University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) said,

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Le Hung has created his own color when researching railway dynamics combined with modern numerical simulation methods. These publications not only contribute to the development of world science but also are reliable sources of reference for domestic and foreign scholars with high quality publications with high scientific content, close to reality, and high applicability. With those excellent scientific works, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Le Hung partly demonstrates the ability of technological autonomy, self-reliance, and self-confidence in research, and in that there is also self-reliance, national pride, always carrying within the aspirations of Vietnamese youth with the desire to leave their country's mark on the world map.

Connecting young scientists globally

Not only has outstanding achievements in scientific research, Mr. Hung also actively participates in Youth Union activities, a member of the global network of young Vietnamese intellectuals (organized by the Central Youth Union) since 2018. After the first forum, he had the opportunity to connect with many talented young Vietnamese people in many fields at home and abroad.

He is also in charge of initiating a global network of young Vietnamese intellectuals in regions around the world including Europe, Russia, Australia, and North America; creating a network of scientists, connecting remotely, and organizing events to arouse patriotism among young Vietnamese intellectuals abroad. He organizes online seminars and talks on his field, collaborating with Vietnamese professors and lecturers around the world.

Believing that Vietnam wants to develop science and technology and needs high-quality human resources, Mr. Hung always connects to create opportunities and hopes to send Vietnamese students to study for free in France.

"I was born and raised in Hanoi, with a grandfather who was a revolutionary veteran, so I understand the values of peace even more. I am aware that the mission of the younger generation is to develop the country, to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers," Hung said.
