Recently, the hydrological situation at reservoirs in the Northern region has improved due to heavy rains, thereby giving hydropower plants the opportunity to increase their power generation capacity to meet load demand. In that context, the National Power System Dispatch Center (A0) has developed a plan and implemented solutions to smoothly and effectively mobilize hydropower plants and thermal power systems nationwide. Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant (belonging to Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company, located in Vung Ang Economic Zone) has also had its power generation capacity adjusted by A0 to suit the practical situation, contributing to ensuring national energy security.
According to Mr. Tran Huu Duong - Deputy Head of Planning and Materials Department (Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company), based on the direction of Vietnam Oil and Gas Power Corporation and the established production and business plan, Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company has proactively and effectively implemented economic , technical and operational solutions... to bring the plant to safe and stable operation. In the first 6 months of 2025, the plant connected to the national grid about 3,689 billion kWh (equal to 104% compared to the same period in 2024) with total expected revenue of about 6,826 billion VND (equal to 105% compared to the same period in 2024). The effective operation of Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant has made an important contribution to the industrial growth index of Ha Tinh province".
It is known that the third quarter of 2025 is the key time for the plant to accelerate its production and business plan with an expected commercial electricity output of about 1.247 billion kWh and an expected revenue of about 2,280 billion VND. To soon complete this goal, Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant continues to flexibly deploy solutions; maintain a 3-shift, 5-shift duty regime 24/24h, ensuring safe and stable generators with the current electricity output mobilized by A0 of about 10 million kWh/day.
At the Central Control Room - the "brain" of the factory, experts and engineers are constantly on duty, closely controlling the operating parameters of the generator, ready to respond to unusual situations and increase power generation capacity when A0 mobilizes.
At the Fuel Workshop, the work pace is serious and urgent, ensuring that the process of receiving ships to import coal is smooth, and the process of transporting coal from the wharf and the factory is convenient. Accordingly, every 2-3 days, engineers and workers of the Fuel Workshop welcome coal ships with a capacity of 20,000 tons to the port to serve as raw materials for electricity production.
Mr. Vu Tran Thanh Hai - Deputy Manager of the Operation Workshop said: All processes of loading, unloading and transporting coal from the wharf to the coal warehouse, from the coal warehouse to the boiler of the factory are strictly controlled by the specialized department based on technical parameters. The types of coal used by the factory include 5a.10, 5a.15 and imported coal from Laos supplied by the Vietnam National Coal and Minerals Group, Dong Bac Corporation ( Ministry of National Defense ) and Hoanh Son Group Joint Stock Company (importing coal from Laos). Currently, the factory's 2 coal warehouses have stored 360,000 tons of coal and depending on the actual situation, the coal supply will take place regularly, continuously, ready for the generator to operate".
Operating the thermal power plant in the context of hot weather, with high temperatures at many times, Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company has focused on solutions to ensure safety and prevent fire and explosion. Accordingly, the enterprise pays special attention to supplementing and upgrading fire and explosion prevention equipment and means in a modern and optimal direction; practicing to improve the capacity and skills of fire prevention and rescue for 100% of engineers, factory staff and the contractor system participating in work at the plant. In particular, at the plant site, there are always hundreds of engineers and highly skilled workers from domestic and foreign contractors participating in periodic and regular maintenance and repair work according to regulations; ensuring to improve the availability of generators.
According to Mr. Nguyen Mau Cam - Deputy Director of Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company: In the first half of 2025, due to fluctuations in the economy in general and the electricity industry in particular, production and business activities were somewhat affected, especially when the price of oil and coal increased, limiting the ability to compete on price in the market. However, with the attention and close direction of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Oil and Gas Power Corporation, and the efforts of all officers and employees, the factory's operations took place safely and effectively.
To soon complete the target of 6.5 billion kWh in 2025, the company continues to closely coordinate with Vietnam Electricity Group, A0 to ensure readiness to mobilize maximum capacity; coordinate to develop and implement a stable coal supply plan to ensure safe and continuous operation of generators. Take full advantage of favorable conditions in terms of load demand, weather, climate, and implement flexible bidding to increase profits and output for the factory.
At the same time, ensure the technical and economic norms approved by the Vietnam Oil and Gas Power Corporation and Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company; promote technical management, safety, labor protection, application of science and technology in electricity production, ensure environmental sanitation; synchronously deploy solutions to strengthen control and maximize cost savings; manage and use capital and assets safely and for the right purposes, ensuring optimal efficiency in the company's production and business activities.
