Writer Nguyen Phan Que Mai honored in France

Last week, the two novels The Mountains Sing and Dust Child by writer Nguyen Phan Que Mai were consecutively awarded two French literary prizes, marking the creativity and special talent of this writer.

Specifically, on June 28, the novel Dust child (French title: Là où fleurissent les cendres ) by Nguyen Phan Que Mai was awarded the Best Foreign Literary Work award at the main stage of the Créteil en poche Book Fair. This award honors the author whose work was published in paperback form as the best book in the past 12 months. Honored alongside the female writer were 5 other names in various genres.

The day before, The Mountains Sing (French title: Pour que chantent les montagnes ) was also named Best Novel of 2025 by Points Publishing House. This is an annual event, honoring the best novel published in pocket-sized format and voted by a panel of readers, critics and the production team of the famous women's magazine Version Femina . In the list, writer Nguyen Phan Que Mai surpassed 8 other names to win the overall prize. She received the award at the Hôtel d'Heidelbach at the Guimet Museum of Asian Art (Paris).

Sharing about this achievement, the writer thanked French readers and "many people who helped make my dream of becoming a writer come true". She also sent gratitude to translator Sarah Tardy and publishers who helped her work "live" in French. Written in English and focusing on the historical upheavals of Vietnam through the fate of families, in recent times, the two works have been warmly received, received many awards and been translated into dozens of languages.
