On October 22, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced the structure, assessment requirements and competency table, thinking level of the 10th grade exam for the 2026-2027 school year in the subjects of literature, math and English to all secondary schools to prepare for 9th grade students to take the 10th grade entrance exam in June 2026.

Accordingly, the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026-2027 school year taking place in June 2026 is the first entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City after merging with Binh Duong and the old Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The announcement of the structure, assessment requirements and the competency table, thinking level of the 10th grade exam of the 3 subjects aims to help schools have a basis to prepare for review and prepare knowledge for 9th grade students accordingly.

Accordingly, the structure and assessment requirements of each exam are as follows:

Literature : The test is designed to integrate reading comprehension and writing skills assessment, the content in the writing section is related to the text in the reading comprehension section.

The structure of the 10th grade literature exam includes 2 parts:

Part 1 (5 points): Reading and writing literary texts

• Question 1 (3 points): Reading comprehension
• Sentence 2 (2 points): Write a paragraph

Part 2 (5 points): Read and understand argumentative or informational texts and write social argumentative essays

• Question 1 (1 point): Reading comprehension
• Question 2 (4 points): Write a social argumentative essay

The basis for assessment is the reading and writing requirements in the 2018 General Education Program (GEP) for literature at secondary school level, mainly grades 8 and 9.

Math: Exam requirements   located in   The 2018 General Education Program for Secondary School Mathematics includes the following knowledge streams: Geometry and Measurement; Numbers and Algebra; Statistics and Probability. The test content aims to assess mathematical abilities such as mathematical thinking and reasoning, mathematical problem solving, and mathematical modeling.

The structure of the 10th grade math exam includes 7 questions:

Lesson 1. (1.5 points) Given the function y = ax2

a) Draw the graph (P) of the above function.

b) Find the points belonging to (P) that satisfy the given conditions.

Lesson 2. (1 point) Given the quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0

a) Find the condition for the equation to have a solution.

b) Applying Viete's formula, calculate the value of the expression related to the solutions.

Lesson 3. (1.5 points) Practical math problems related to probability and statistics.

Lesson 4. (1 point)

a) Write expression A representing a certain quantity x in a real-life problem.

b) Find the value of x so that A satisfies a certain condition.

Lesson 5. (1 point) Practical math problems related to geometry:

Perimeter, area of ​​triangle, quadrilateral, length of circular arc, circumference of circle, area of ​​circle, circular sector, circular segment, circular ring... Lateral area, total area, volume of solids in reality...

Lesson 6. (1 point) Practical math problems related to equations, inequalities, and systems of first-degree equations with two variables.

Lesson 7. (3 points) Plane geometry problem includes 3 questions

b) Prove that the formulas, elements are equal, collinear, concurrent...

c) Calculate length, perimeter, area, angle measurement...

REFERENCE TEST

English: Assessment focuses on specific language skills, with specific goals for each knowledge stream.

The structure of the 10th grade English exam has 4 parts including 40 questions.

• Part 1 (1 point): Phonetics, from sentence 1 to sentence 4
• Part 2 (3 points): Vocabulary, grammar, communication, from question 5 to question 16
• Part 3 (4 points): Write the correct form of the word, from sentence 29 to sentence 34; Write appropriate phrases according to the given information, sentences 35, 36; Write sentences, from sentence 37 to sentence 40.
• Part 4 (3 points): Reading comprehension: Read and fill in the blanks from questions 17 to 22; Read comprehension and answer the questions from questions 23 to 28.

Note that there are two new questions about writing appropriate phrases based on the information given. This question tests your ability to read dictionary notes to find linguistic information and apply knowledge.

Regarding the first enrollment period of Ho Chi Minh City after the merger, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that it is expected that the enrollment of grade 10 students for the 2026-2027 school year will combine both admission and entrance exams to suit the reality.

Specifically, the 10th grade admission form for public high schools will be implemented in some specific areas. Public high schools in the remaining areas will enroll 10th grade students by entrance exam with 3 subjects: literature, math, foreign language. This is to maintain stability, create convenience for parents, students and schools after the merger of 3 localities.

The specialized departments will calculate and develop specific plans for each region and each school for admission and entrance exams in a reasonable manner to submit to the Director of the Department of Education and Training and carry out the steps according to regulations.
