According to Mr. Dang Huu Tri, Head of the Mathematics Department at Nguyen Du Secondary School (Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), the 2026 10th grade mathematics exam has 7 questions, with questions 1 and 2 being purely basic math problems about functions, graphs, equations, and Vieta's formulas. Students need to carefully observe the signs, perform step-by-step transformations, calculate, and draw graphs accurately. When drawing function graphs, they must clearly indicate the y-axis and x-axis, and divide the unit intervals precisely to get full marks on this section.
According to Mr. Huu Tri, the next four questions (from question 3 to question 6) are practical math problems of varying difficulty levels, still related to the knowledge students have learned. Here are some notes for students when doing this part:
- Knowledge of probability and statistics is a topic that began appearing in the 2025 10th grade math exam, requiring students to carefully read the question, correctly identify the sample space, and accurately calculate the probability of an event.
- If the number Pi (π) is given in the exam question, use this number to solve the problem. If not specified in the question, assume it is the value stored in the calculator.
- For solving real-world math problems, the equation must be transformed into a standard form before using a calculator to find the solution. Answers that do not transform the equation into a standard form but instead provide the solution directly will not be accepted.
- For equation and system of equations, you must have logical reasoning to arrive at the equation, such as: Let x be the unit, determine the conditions, and then deduce the equation; only then will you get points.
- Carefully convert units, remembering the correct conversion method and being meticulous in rounding numbers to meet requirements.
Question 7 is a geometry proof test consisting of three sub-questions: the first two test understanding and application of knowledge, and the last one test advanced application. When drawing the figures, except for circles which can be drawn with a pencil, all other geometric shapes must be drawn with ink. Drawing with a pencil in these cases is considered a violation of the rules. Teacher Dang Huu Tri noted that even if the answer is correct but the drawing is missing from the exam paper (for some reason, such as the student drawing the figure on scratch paper and forgetting to transfer it), the geometry question will not be graded.

A teacher from Nguyen Du Secondary School also stated that to prepare for the exam, students can review by topic or subject. For example, for mathematics, they can review topics and subjects such as algebra, including quadratic functions, parabolas; systems of equations, quadratic equations; Vieta's formulas and their applications; problem-solving methods using systems of equations and equations; and familiar real-world math problems (related to interest rates, percentages, etc.). For geometry, they can review topics such as inscribed quadrilates; circle length, arc length, and area; and spatial shapes from grade 9 (cylinders, cones, spheres).
Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced the structure and sample exam questions for the three subjects of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026-2027 school year. Accordingly, the 10th grade entrance exam next school year is expected to combine both entrance exams and selection based on academic records. For the entrance exam, candidates will take three subjects: Vietnamese Literature, Mathematics, and a foreign language (mainly English), while the selection based on academic records will be implemented in some specific areas.
The structure of the 2026 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City has been announced.Following the merger, Ho Chi Minh City will have the largest education and training sector in the country. In the 2025-2026 school year, the city will have nearly 2.6 million students, more than 3,500 schools, and 110,000 teachers at all levels.
For the 2026-2027 school year, Ho Chi Minh City plans to enroll at least 70% of junior high school graduates in 10th grade at public high schools in the city, equivalent to approximately 150,000 students who graduated from 9th grade in the 2025-2026 school year.
