Mr. Dang Huu Tri, Head of the Math Department, Nguyen Du Secondary School (Ben Thanh Ward - Ho Chi Minh City), said that the 10th grade math exam in 2026 has 7 questions, of which questions 1 and 2 are purely basic math problems about functions, graphs, equations, and Vieta. Students need to be careful to look at the correct signs, transform step by step, calculate, draw graphs accurately, and when drawing function graphs, they must clearly indicate the y-axis and x-axis, and divide the unit intervals accurately to get full points in this section.

According to teacher Huu Tri, the next 4 questions (from question 3 to question 6) are practical math problems spread out at different levels, still related to the knowledge students have learned. Here are some notes for students when doing the test for this part, specifically:

- The knowledge of statistical probability is a question that started to appear in the 10th grade math exam in 2025, requiring students to read the question carefully, correctly determine the sample space and correctly calculate the probability of the event.

- If the number Pi (π) is given in the test, use this number to solve the problem. If it is not stated in the test, the default is the computer's memory number.

- To solve practical problems, you must convert them into standard equations before you are allowed to use a calculator to find the solution. Candidates who do not convert them into standard equations but instead give the solution will not be accepted.

- In the form of solving equations, the system of equations must have reasoning to give the equation such as: Let x be the unit, condition and then deduce the equation to get points.

- Convert units carefully, remember the correct way to convert, and be careful in rounding numbers to the correct requirements.

Question 7 is a geometric proof consisting of 3 small questions with the first 2 questions being general knowledge and application, the last question being high-level application. When drawing shapes, except for circles which can be drawn with a pencil, the remaining geometric shapes must be drawn with a pen. Drawing with a pencil in these cases is considered a violation. Mr. Dang Huu Tri, please note that if the answer is correct but there is no drawing on the test paper (for some reason, for example, the student drew the shape on the draft and forgot to draw it on the test paper, etc.) the geometry test will still not be counted.

A teacher at Nguyen Du Secondary School also said that to prepare for the exam, students can review by topic or subject. For example, for math, we can review topics and subjects such as algebra, topics on quadratic functions, Parabola graphs; systems of equations, quadratic equations; Vietnamese formulas and applications; types of problem solving by setting up systems of equations, equations; familiar practical math forms (related to interest rates, percentages, etc.). As for geometry, such as topics on inscribed quadrilaterals; length of circles, arcs, areas of circles; spatial shapes of grade 9 (cylinders, cones, spheres).

Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced the structure and sample test questions for 3 subjects of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026-2027 school year. Accordingly, the 10th grade entrance exam for the next school year is expected to be a combination of entrance exam and selection. With the entrance exam, candidates will take 3 subjects: literature, math, foreign language (mainly English), and the selection form will be implemented in some special areas.

After the merger, Ho Chi Minh City will have the largest education and training sector in the country. In the 2025-2026 school year, the city will have nearly 2.6 million students, more than 3,500 schools and 110,000 teachers at all levels.

In the 2026-2027 school year, Ho Chi Minh City plans to mobilize at least 70% of junior high school graduates to enter grade 10 of public high schools in the city, equivalent to about 150,000 students graduating from grade 9 in the 2025-2026 school year.
