Recently, the news that Mr. Gerard Richard Williams bought the exclusive right to perform the song "Xin loi tinh yeu" by musician Minh Nhien for a cost of "up to 9 figures, a record high in Vietnam" has attracted attention.
Minh Nhien was born in 1970, few people know that he is the younger brother of musician Tran Minh Phi and pianist Tran Minh Phuong.
He loved and pursued music since he was young, but it wasn't until he was in 12th grade, with the catalyst of his innocent first love, that he had his first composition, Only You (later performed by the GMC group - PV).

However, Minh Nhien's starting point in his musical career was as a musician. He played music throughout the 1990s until the Blue Wave music movement exploded, leading to a scene of singers "thirsty" for songs, trying to find songwriters.
Around the early 2000s, Minh Nhien was not confident enough to decide to try composing again. In 2002, the song Love Rain with Lam Truong's voice marked the appearance of the name Minh Nhien in the Vietnamese music industry.
However, it was only when the song "Xin loi tinh yeu" (Sorry for love) was released by singer Dam Vinh Hung that Minh Nhien truly became a famous name.
Sorry Love - Dam Vinh Hung
Throughout his career, Minh Nhien only wrote about 70-80 songs, most of which were released to the market such as: Sorry love, Love has no fault, Goodbye love, Try to erase all, Bitter lips, Night of farewell, Baby love ...
According to VietNamNet's private source, Minh Nhien's music royalties are currently a whopping 500 million VND/year or an average of 100-150 million VND/quarter - quite high and stable at the Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center.
Unlike many colleagues who focus on their creative careers, he also engages in art with many different roles such as: building personal brands, producing programs...

Decades ago, Minh Nhien was known as a teacher, helping singers such as Kasim Hoang Vu, Giang Hong Ngoc, Maya, Kiwi Ngo Mai Trang... build, shape their style, image and debut to the public.
In recent years, the 7X musician also opened a production company under his name, behind television shows such as: The Cover show, The Only ... and many art performances at home and abroad.
Having witnessed many broken teacher-student relationships on the show, he feels lucky that his relationships with his former students are very good, even though they no longer work together, they still keep in touch.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Minh Nhien had to close his company and is now only producing shows as an individual. "This sounds like a big deal, but it doesn't affect me much because I still have the same customer base from when I opened the company," he said.
Minh Nhien added: "Unlike many colleagues, I do not persist in pursuing a creative career, but no matter what I do, I only focus on art, not on business."
