Brighton & Hove Albion have the chance to move up to second in the Premier League table if they take all three points from Saturday's early morning clash at the Amex against bottom side Southampton.

The hosts are looking for a third straight win, while Southampton are aiming to avoid a third straight league defeat.
Latest Brighton vs Southampton team information
Brighton will be without James Milner (thigh) and Solly March (knee) through injury, while Saturday's early kick-off also comes too soon for Jack Hinshelwood (knee) and Adam Webster (thigh).
Ferdi Kadioglu (toe) and Yankuba Minteh (muscle) are both doubtful and will be assessed before kick-off. However, Lewis Dunk and Tariq Lamptey have returned to training after calf injuries and will be in Hurzeler's squad.
Baleba's suspension, coupled with Hinshelwood's uncertain status, could pave the way for Matt O'Riley to make his first Premier League start, playing in central midfield alongside Yasin Ayari or Mats Wieffer.
Up front, Georginio Rutter was moved to the right to make way for Joao Pedro at Bournemouth and could continue in that role, although Simon Adingra is pushing for a starting spot.
Southampton are still without Aaron Ramsdale (finger), Gavin Bazunu (Achilles tendon), Jan Bednarek (knee), Ross Stewart and William Smallbone (hamstring). Martin also confirmed that former Brighton player Adam Lallana will be out for "a few weeks" after injuring his hamstring in the defeat to Liverpool.
Striker Paul Onuachu, who was forced off early against Liverpool with a knee injury, was described as suffering only "a little discomfort" and could feature to some extent at the Amex.
Lallana’s absence could see Joe Aribo start in central midfield alongside Matheus Fernandes, who scored against Liverpool. Up front, Adam Armstrong – who also scored last week – could partner Tyler Dibling and either Cameron Archer or Ben Brereton Diaz.

Latest Brighton vs Southampton football review
Two weeks after an emotional 2-1 comeback win over Manchester City at the Amex, Brighton continued their fine form by beating Bournemouth by the same scoreline last weekend. It was their fourth win in their last six Premier League games, as many as they had won in their previous 19 games (D7 L8).

Joao Pedro opened the scoring in the fourth minute of his first start since August, before Kaoru Mitoma doubled the lead shortly after the break. Despite Carlos Baleba's red card in the 58th minute, Brighton held on for the win despite David Brooks reducing the deficit and Antoine Semenyo almost levelling with a shot that hit the crossbar.
Manager Fabian Hurzeler is pleased that Brighton are now firmly in fifth place in the table, level on points with Chelsea and Arsenal (third and fourth) and just one point behind Man City. However, he stressed that the team must remain humble and focused at this crucial stage of the season.
Brighton return to the Amex, where they are unbeaten in their last six games and have picked up 12 points. They join Brentford and Liverpool as the only three teams yet to lose at home this season, although their defence remains vulnerable with just four clean sheets in 15 home games in 2024. Recent head-to-head history is also in Brighton’s favour, with three wins and two draws from their last five games against Southampton, including a 3-1 win in May 2023.
Southampton's 3-2 defeat to Liverpool last weekend continued their disappointing run. Leading 2-1 in the final 25 minutes, goalkeeper Alex McCarthy's mistakes and Yukinari Sugawara's handball cost them dearly. This was their 10th defeat of the season, keeping Southampton bottom of the table, five points adrift of safety after 12 games.
However, Russell Martin's side have reason to be hopeful. They have lost just one of their last six away games against Brighton (W3 D2) and have scored in all 12 Premier League meetings with the Seagulls. Southampton are also unbeaten in their last six games on Friday (W4 D2), which could prove to be a difficult match for the hosts.
