Deeper awareness of the historical mission of the working class

The 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for the 2023-2028 term has just taken place in Hanoi. This is an important political event of the working class, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and a broad political activity among cadres, union members, and workers nationwide.

One of the goals of the Resolution set by the 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, term 2023-2028, is: Building a modern and strong working class, contributing to realizing the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country.

According to Marxism-Leninism, the historical mission of the working class is to abolish the capitalist regime, abolish the regime of man exploiting man, liberate the working class, working people and all humanity from all oppression, exploitation, poverty, backwardness, and successfully build socialism and communism.

For Vietnam, the working class of our country has a great historical mission: It is the class leading the revolution through the vanguard, the Communist Party of Vietnam ; the class representing the advanced mode of production; the pioneer class in the cause of building socialism, the leading force in the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country for the goal of a rich people, a strong country, a fair, democratic and civilized society; the core force in the alliance of the working class with the peasantry and the intelligentsia under the leadership of the Party.

For that reason, the historical mission of the working class is still one of the contents that hostile forces focus on destroying in modern political life.

Currently, after the collapse of the socialist model in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, along with the strong impacts of the scientific and technological revolution, there have been changes in the structure of the working class in the direction of reducing the number of traditional workers and increasing the number of intellectual workers, causing some people to hastily conclude that: The working class is not qualified enough to play a leadership role, or is "disappearing", therefore, the historical mission of the working class no longer exists.

Of course, these are just arguments and viewpoints that have no scientific basis and lack practical basis on the role and historical mission of the working class, and need to be resolutely fought to refute them.

There is also a view that: Today, modern capitalism is "self-adjusting" and "self-adapting" to move towards socialism, without needing the mission of the working class.

The working class is always the most advanced and revolutionary class, the only social force with a historical mission. And over the years, the Vietnamese working class has affirmed its role, worthy of being a part of the world working class, continuing to take Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought as its ideological foundation.

In his article on “Some theoretical and practical issues on socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam”, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong pointed out: “We acknowledge that capitalism has never been as global as it is today and has also achieved many great achievements, especially in the field of liberating and developing productive forces, developing science and technology. Many developed capitalist countries, on the basis of high economic conditions and as a result of the struggle of the working class and working people, have taken adjustment measures, forming many social welfare regimes that are more progressive than before. Since the mid-1970s and especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union, in order to adapt to new conditions, world capitalism has made great efforts to adjust itself, promoting “neoliberal” policies on a global scale; and thanks to that, there is still potential for development. However, capitalism still cannot overcome its fundamental contradictions. its inherent

The current direction of building the Vietnamese working class has been determined by our Party as follows: The strategy of building a strong working class must be closely linked with the country's socio-economic development strategy; building a Vietnamese working class that develops in both quantity and quality, has a strong political stance, is intellectualized and adapts quickly to the market mechanism and international integration; building a strong working class is the responsibility of the entire political system, of the whole society and the efforts of each worker; Building a strong working class must be closely linked to building a clean and strong Communist Party of Vietnam in terms of politics, ideology, ethics, organization and cadres, while maintaining and strengthening the Party's working class nature, innovating the content and methods of leadership, enhancing the Party's fighting spirit, constantly improving revolutionary ethics and communist qualities... so that the Communist Party can ensure its leadership and political prestige in the process of leading the implementation of the historical mission of the working class.

The Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress determined that by 2030, the 100th anniversary of the Party's founding, Vietnam will be a developing country with modern industry and high average income; by 2045, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, it will become a high-income developed country.

Therefore, the goal: "Building a modern, strong working class, contributing to realizing the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country" set out in the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union not only continues to affirm the great historical role and mission of the current working class, but also concretizes the spirit of the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the Party.

To achieve that noble goal, more than ever, each worker and laborer needs to have a fuller and deeper awareness of the position, role and historical mission of their class and the Trade Union organization, thereby constantly practicing, studying and striving for the common goal.

At the same time, we need to make efforts and join hands to build the Vietnam Trade Union to be increasingly strong and comprehensive, worthy of being the largest representative organization, the center of gathering and uniting the working class and laborers nationwide, and the pioneering force in carrying out the task of rapid and sustainable development of the country.

Speaking at the 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hopes and believes that: “The 2023-2028 term is the term towards the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. How can the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the workers' movement have new developments, achieve greater and more impressive achievements, make important contributions to the renovation process, successfully carry out the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country, contribute to the historical mission of the working class towards the country and the nation, which is to build Vietnam: Rich people, strong country, democracy, equality, civilization”.
