Day of charity
Responding to the emulation movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in 120 days and nights launched by the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Hoa Vang District, the authorities of 11 communes have deployed many practical models to join hands in carrying out this meaningful social security work. At the end of February 2025, the People's Committee of Hoa Phong Commune launched the model "Day of Compassion" to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses.
Mr. Tra Dinh Thu, Party Secretary, Head of the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Hoa Phong Commune, said that the whole commune has 47 poor households, near-poor households, and households living in temporary and dilapidated houses that need support for repair and new construction in the first phase. Through the campaign, departments, branches, unions, units, enterprises, and affiliated units supported the "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" Fund with more than 320 million VND and registered to contribute 1,410 working days to help repair and build houses.
Since its establishment in mid-February 2025, the "Volunteer Shock Team to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" of Hoa Tien Commune has always been present at construction sites to repair and build houses for people in difficult circumstances. Chairman of the Commune People's Committee Dang Quang Hung said that the team is responsible for assigning members and volunteers to support working days to help households dismantle houses, transport materials, and construct works to shorten time and reduce costs during the construction process.
In addition to maintaining the activities of the "Volunteer Shock Team to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses", the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Tien commune launched a 120-day and night program to join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses and received hundreds of millions of VND and 1,200 working days from units, organizations, individuals, associations and unions. This contributed to speeding up the progress and effectiveness of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area.
Meanwhile, the Farmers' Association of Lien Chieu District launched the program "Farmers' Shelter" to mobilize cadres and members to join hands to repair houses for members in difficulty. Mr. Nguyen Cau (Group 90, Hoa Minh Ward) is a farmer member, suffering from a serious illness, and has a dilapidated house. To help his family, the Farmers' Association of the district mobilized members to join hands to support 20 million VND and 25 working days to help repair and upgrade the house. According to the Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Lien Chieu District, Le Duy Hoa, the initial launch received 33 million VND and 45 working days from contributions from all levels of the association and members.
“This is an activity that demonstrates the spirit of mutual love of members in the entire district. We are continuing to mobilize and try to support each member in difficulty with 30 million VND and 30 working days to repair their houses to ensure they are solid and sturdy, and to soon stabilize their lives,” Mr. Hoa shared.

Warm military-civilian relationship
In parallel with mobilizing resources from the community, localities skillfully and flexibly mobilized armed forces to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for the poor. After 2 months of construction, at the end of March 2025, the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Hoa Phong Commune inaugurated and handed over a new house to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kich (Khuong My village). Ms. Kich is a poor, single-parent household in difficult circumstances with a dilapidated house.
Through the introduction and connection of Hoa Vang District Youth Union, Special Police Group No. 3, Ministry of Public Security undertook to support the construction. Officers and soldiers contributed 100 million VND and 200 working days to help Ms. Kích build a new house. In the house with the scent of new paint, Ms. Kích happily said: “I did not think that at my old age I would have a new, spacious and cozy house like this. I don’t know what to say other than my sincere thanks to the authorities at all levels and officers and soldiers of Special Police Group No. 3 for enthusiastically supporting me to build a new house.”
Officers and soldiers of Phu Loc Border Guard Station (Thanh Khe District) have just contributed to repairing the house of Ms. Nguyen Thi Sau (Thanh Khe Tay Ward, Thanh Khe District). Ms. Sau is a family with revolutionary contributions, whose dilapidated house was supported by the city and district with repair costs. As a unit stationed in the area, officers and soldiers of Phu Loc Border Guard Station promoted their sense of responsibility, volunteered to support working days to help dismantle the corrugated iron roof, move furniture, whitewash, and paint the walls so that the family could have a new house.
According to the representative of Phu Loc Border Guard Station, this is one of the key political tasks in 2025 to effectively implement the model of "Front mobilizes; businesses, units, philanthropists sponsor funds; Border Guards support workers to build and repair solidarity houses for poor households, disadvantaged households and policy families in the coastal border area" to strengthen solidarity and compatriotism between the army and people in the area.
