Many people mistakenly transferred donations to personal accounts opened at ABBANK instead of the Vietnam Red Cross Society's account opened at MB BANK.

On August 15, many social networking sites spread information about a customer with account number 2022 opened at ABBANK receiving many money transfers with the content: "support Cuba".

The reason is that this account number coincides with the 2022 account number opened at MB BANK of the Vietnam Red Cross Society - the official recipient of support for the campaign to support the Cuban people within the framework of "Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year 2025", to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1960 - 2025).

According to the content of the social media posts, the account owner is asking the online community to find a solution to this problem.

Responding to VTC News reporters at noon on August 15, a representative of ABBANK said that on the afternoon of August 14, the account owner contacted the bank's switchboard to report receiving money to support Cuba and wanted to return it.

The bank has instructed the account holder to proactively access the bank's application to check the transferred account number and proactively return it. Or the account holder can go to the nearest ABBANK transaction counter to request a refund check.

“This morning, a bank employee proactively called the account owner and invited this customer to the counter so that ABBANK could assist in completing the refund procedure. The account owner also plans to close this account number,” said an ABBANK representative.

According to the representative of ABBANK, for those who mistakenly transfer money from another bank to an ABBANK account, the account holder of that bank can request an investigation from the transferring bank. ABBANK will receive the information and make a refund according to regulations.

Previously, the Vietnam Red Cross launched a campaign to support the Cuban people, lasting from August 13 to October 16, with the goal of mobilizing resources to help the Cuban people overcome difficulties caused by natural disasters, epidemics, and blockade and embargo policies.

As of 8:00 a.m. on August 15, the amount of donations through account number 2022 at the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB BANK) had reached more than 117 billion VND with nearly 590,000 donations, surpassing the minimum target of 65 billion VND.
