After more than 3 months of carrying out the work to merge the two newspapers of the provincial Party Committee, the first issue was published, 49 years ago, this April, on the 25th of 1976, a delegation of Tuyen Quang newspaper cadres led by journalist Phi Van Tuong, Editor-in-Chief, along with 18 cadres, reporters, and employees, including me (the author of this article), marched to Ha Giang to start a new period of journalism - Ha Tuyen Newspaper. For me, this was a very memorable trip. Because since being recruited to Tuyen Quang newspaper under the study-work regime (study journalism, work - practice writing for newspapers) for just over 6 months, this is the first long trip, not only will it be staying at the editorial office with a completely new working environment, but at the young age of 20 - 21 like us, students who have just graduated from high school, no wife or children, innocent, carefree, so we only feel excited, everything is new, but have not imagined the difficulties and hardships ahead...
That day, it was the end of April, but along Highway 2, from Vinh Tuy (Bac Quang) to Me Bridge (Ha Giang town at that time), the red cotton flowers were blooming, as if welcoming the delegation of officials and reporters from Tuyen Quang newspaper to Ha Giang. It was almost 2 pm when we arrived at the Ha Giang newspaper office. The best possible conditions for officials and reporters from Tuyen Quang to work had been prepared. That said, at that time, Ha Giang newspaper only had 3 level 4 houses (each house had 5-6 rooms) and 1 dining room + kitchen, located on a mound of land in Minh Khai ward, next to the Lo river bank. The office had more than 20 officials, reporters, editors, and employees (CB, PV, BTV, NV), of which, 9 people lived in dormitories, the rest had their own houses in Ha Giang town. At that time, there was no concept of official housing, so we were arranged a workplace and a break room at the office (usually 2 or 3 people in a room). After the first days of settling down to eat, rest and work, and getting used to the new working environment, we - 6 young reporters of Tuyen Quang Newspaper were assigned to the districts (mainly to the highland districts of Ha Giang, as the late Editor-in-Chief Pham Kim Quy said, "reversing the army": Ha Giang Newspaper reporters went to Tuyen Quang area, and Tuyen Quang Newspaper reporters went to Ha Giang area. As for me, I was assigned to journalist Ninh Thai Hoc, former reporter of "Vietnam Doc Lap" Newspaper - the newspaper of the Viet Bac Autonomous Region Party Committee, to guide the practice of journalism, and was assigned to Son Duong district... In the district, we reported the District Party Committee's collective meals, paid the stamp regime and brought along the monthly salary (our trainee salary was 46 VND/person/month, equal to 88.5% of the salary of a first-level reporter, which was 52 VND/month). The finished news and articles were sent by post to the editorial office. Because the newspaper was sparsely published (2 issues/week), the timeliness was not as strict as it is now. hours. In Son Duong until the end of 1976, when I was able to "operate independently" both in going to the base to collect documents and write news and articles, in early 1977, I was assigned to Bac Quang district, a large district of the former Ha Giang province and also a large district of the newly merged Ha Tuyen province. The time was difficult and arduous, but it left me with many memories of the profession, of the relationship with the Party committees, the local authorities, with the people I met and interviewed... when I "resided" in the districts of Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, Meo Vac, from mid-1977 to the end of 1978...
Nearly half a century has passed since the first day of merging the two newspapers Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang, our group of trainee reporters has grown up every day both in our profession and in leadership and management. Now we are all in our 70s, but our passion for the profession and the memories of a difficult time, but full of love for our comrades and colleagues, will always be in our hearts.
Then, the two newspapers Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang will merge, continuing the 16-year period of sharing the joys and sorrows. These are truly big, historic changes, and there will inevitably be concerns and worries, but everything will be resolved satisfactorily with dynamic thinking and actions to continue to innovate and create, building the newspaper of the Provincial Party Committee, the voice of the people of the newly merged provinces of Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang in a larger development space, with advanced and modern working methods of the digital technology revolution.
