Signs of refractive errors in children

At the Workshop on Updating the Advances in Ophthalmology Science and Technology recently organized by the Hanoi - Dong Nai Eye Hospital (Tam Hiep Ward, Dong Nai Province), many experts in the field of ophthalmology emphasized: The rate of children and adolescents with refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) is increasing. Notably, children and students in the city have more refractive errors than children in the countryside.

Explaining this issue, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong, Hanoi - Dong Nai Eye Hospital, said: In addition to the habit of children using mobile devices and computers from an early age, for a long time, with high learning intensity, it is also necessary to mention the reason why children spend too little time outdoors during the day, less than 2 hours/day. The higher the degree of myopia, the higher the risk of complications directly related to the eyes, and can even cause blindness for children or people with high myopia.

Parents should pay attention if their children have signs such as: blurred vision, confusion when reading on the board, books, newspapers, watching TV, often squinting, looking sideways or having to get close to see clearly; tired eyes, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, easily losing concentration when studying or reading books, newspapers, they need to take their children to a hospital with an eye specialist for examination, refractive error measurement and appropriate glasses.
