For many years, more than 500 workers of Phong Thai Rubber Company Limited (Ben Cat City) have always considered Mr. Chen Chiu Lung (Mr. Chen) from Taiwan (China), the company's General Director, as a family member. For more than 20 years of investing and living in Binh Duong , Mr. Chen has always considered workers as valuable assets, the survival of the enterprise.
As the owner of a large FDI enterprise, Mr. Chen has a simple lifestyle, close to his workers. Every day, when he comes to work at the company, he sits down to eat with the workers, learns about their circumstances, and encourages each person. Although the workers' meals are well-prepared by the grassroots trade union (CĐCS), with adequate nutrition, Mr. Chen always wants to do better for the workers every day. "Recently, during the night shift, he went down to the cafeteria and saw a worker eating instant noodles but lacking vegetables and meat. In the morning, he immediately directed the cafeteria to buy many kilograms of beef and the freshest vegetables to put in the refrigerator so that the workers can make noodles when needed, and the company will pay for it," Ms. Dinh Thi Huong, Chairwoman of the Trade Union, recalled. According to Ms. Huong, that was just a very small story that Mr. Chen kept an eye on, taking care of the workers' lives every day.
In addition to stabilizing jobs and creating high incomes for workers, Phong Thai Rubber Company Limited takes good care of workers' lives in all aspects such as taking workers on trips , regularly supporting gifts and money for workers in difficulty; creating playgrounds to take care of their spiritual lives on holidays and Tet. For families with difficult circumstances, parents living far from their children, Mr. Chen directed the Trade Union to coordinate with the company to make a list, support families to bring their children to live near their parents, and apply for admission to schools near the company. Every year, Mr. Chen always agrees with the Trade Union's policy of signing agreements that are beneficial to workers such as: Support for raising children, pregnant women; general medical examination for all workers; subsidizing gasoline, rent; supporting poor children to go to school...
Ms. Dinh Thi Huong added: “For long-time employees at the company, Mr. Chen lends them money from his own pocket to buy land and build houses without interest, deducting about 4 to 5 million VND/person from their salary each month, depending on their income. Many families who buy cars and send their children to college are also lent 300 to 400 million VND/person. Mr. Chen is a person who lives a meaningful life, has compassion and wholeheartedly cares for the lives of his employees, so for many years, our company has not had any workers quit or change jobs, and the company has not laid off any employees.”
Join hands with the local
Over the years, more than 4,000 union members and workers of Rochdale Spears Company Limited (Tan Uyen City) have always had affection and respect for Mr. Geoff Hawkes, the company's chairman from the UK. In addition to taking care of jobs and stable income for employees, the company also takes good care of employees in difficult circumstances, sick, or having work-related accidents with special policies. He often makes an impression on employees when he wears the traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai on holidays and Tet and plays his heart out.
In addition, Mr. Geoff Hawkes always prioritizes jobs for local workers such as demobilized soldiers and children in difficult circumstances who come to work at the company. Every year, the company organizes charity activities such as giving hundreds of gifts to poor households and families in difficult circumstances in the area. In cases of accidents or serious illness, the Trade Union proposes that employees join hands to support up to tens of millions of VND/case. Every month, workers are supported with additional money for gasoline and childcare.
Along with that, the Trade Union coordinates with the company's leaders to carry out social volunteer activities. A typical example is the scholarship program "For the future generation" to help poor students who are children of employees inside and outside the company to have the opportunity to go to school, each scholarship is up to 5 million VND. Thereby, hundreds of millions of VND in scholarships are awarded to children inside and outside the company and children in difficult circumstances in Binh Phuoc and Quang Nam provinces.
To continue to take better care of workers' lives, help them stabilize their lives, and stay with the company for a long time, the Trade Union is building a mutual aid fund of about 1 billion VND and proposed that Mr. Peter support it. This fund is to help workers with illness and disease borrow interest-free loans, avoiding getting involved in black credit. Along with that, the Trade Union will propose that the company's leaders build a collective housing area so that workers in difficult circumstances have stable housing, without having to pay rent every month. Inside the collective housing area, there is expected to be a nursery group or kindergarten so that workers' children have a place to study and receive better care...
