Ninh Thuan explores Halal product market

Lots of potential

Nhat Thanh Food Company Limited was approved by the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province to invest in the Nhat Thanh Food concentrated slaughterhouse project in Phuoc Dan town (Ninh Phuoc district) since 2019, officially put into operation since 2020. The project has a total area of ​​over 5,300 m2, with a slaughter capacity of 200 animals/hour.

In 2023, the Company will cooperate with the Center for Rural Development (SAEMAUL) under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to implement a Joint Project to produce, process and consume goat and sheep products, oriented towards export according to Halal standards with a budget of over 4.6 billion VND.

Ms. Tran Thi Minh, Director of Nhat Thanh Food, said that the Company proposed that the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province consider expanding the area by 5,196 m2 to build a slaughter line according to Halal standards, to ensure standards and conditions for export to the Middle Eastern and Muslim markets.

“We are implementing legal procedures to expand production, then we will find partners to export Halal products,” said Ms. Minh.

It is known that the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province assigned departments, branches and localities to review and arrange land funds for the planning of the Lamb Processing Factory Project for Nhat Thanh Food, aiming to export Halal-standard lamb to the markets of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines...

At Thanh Hai Industrial Park (Phan Rang - Thap Cham City), VietFarm Food Joint Stock Company (VietFarm, under GC FOOD Group) has products that have achieved Halal certification.

Ninh Thuan will help businesses deploy production processes and certify products according to Halal standards for export to Muslim markets.

VietFarm's products are exported to a number of countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazahstan, Uzbekistan, with a revenue proportion of 5 - 8% (by 2023) and are ready to reach many other countries in this potential market.

VietFarm is also investing in production lines, separate equipment, safe raw materials, packaging, transportation, preservation... according to Halal standards.

Not only businesses in the province, recently, foreign partners have also been interested in and wanted to promote cooperation on Halal products of Ninh Thuan province.

Dr. Nasir Latif, Chairman of AeroAsia Holding Development Group in Brunei, and Country Director of BIMP - EAGA Business Council, said that Brunei businesses are eager to exchange and cooperate to access distribution channels to bring agricultural products and lamb products of Ninh Thuan to Halal standards for export to Brunei and Muslim countries in the ASEAN region.

During a working session with the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province in early March 2024, Mr. Bader Almatrooshi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), emphasized that the UAE business community is very interested in the fields of tourism , renewable energy, logistics, processing, and import and export of Halal products of the province.

Mr. Bader Almatrooshi also affirmed that the UAE is willing to provide non-refundable funding to help Ninh Thuan soon export Halal products to the UAE and Middle East markets.

Actively promote the market

According to Mr. Trinh Minh Hoang, Vice Chairman of Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee, the province has a very early developed sheep farming industry, is the largest farming area in the country with a total herd of more than 99,000 sheep, and the output of fresh meat for slaughter reaches 2,044 tons/year.

“Ninh Thuan has a favorable geographical location, close to large Halal markets such as Malaysia, Indonesia... therefore, developing Halal products is one of the development orientations of the province,” Mr. Hoang emphasized.

A representative of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ninh Thuan said that in addition to the markets of ASEAN countries, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, EU, and the US, Ninh Thuan wants to approach and expand the global Halal market.

Currently, in the province, there is one enterprise that has been certified Halal and is exporting to the Halal market, which is Canh Dong Viet Food Joint Stock Company with a specific product of aloe vera jelly. The province is promoting the export of lamb to this market.

“Regarding lamb, Nhat Thanh Food Company Limited has connected and received much interest from Brunei partners, who want to cooperate. However, up to now, the province's lamb has not yet implemented the production process and certification according to Halal product standards,” said a representative of the Department of Industry and Trade.

In the coming time, the Department will continue to coordinate with the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to implement trade promotion activities to promote exports, including exports to the Halal market.

Specifically, support businesses to improve machinery and equipment to enhance product quality; coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to implement the Project on Linking Production, Processing and Consumption of Export-oriented Goat and Sheep Products.

According to the project, the unit in charge of the association is Nhat Thanh Food Company Limited, which is responsible for continuing to maintain, expand and develop the association chain, and develop the export-oriented market.

A representative of the Department of Industry and Trade said that the province will help businesses speed up plans to implement production processes and certify products according to Halal standards to successfully connect exports to Brunei.

Along with that, Ninh Thuan also organizes trade delegations and direct trade promotion in Halal market countries (after being approved by the Prime Minister, the delegation is expected to carry out trade promotion in 2025); continue to coordinate with the Middle East - Africa Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) to send products to Vietnamese Embassies in countries to support introduction and promotion.
