In an interview with 24/7 TV channel on April 14, the mayor of the Ukrainian government in Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, announced that a large explosion had been recorded near a train station in the city. This train station is also used by the Russian army to store military equipment and set up a weapons repair workshop.
"This morning, things could not have been worse for the enemy when a huge explosion shook the city. The sound of the explosion was heard in the villages around Melitopol. The incident occurred near a local railway station. More details will be released later. However, the enemy is concentrating a lot of military equipment and ammunition here. A weapons repair workshop has also been established near the railway station. The explosion damaged the workshop but it has not been completely destroyed," Fedorov said.
The above information from Mayor Fedorov was confirmed by Vladimir Rogov, a pro-Russian official in southern Ukraine.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the above information or the damage after the explosion on April 14.
Recently, large explosions have been continuously recorded in the city of Melitopol, a gateway to the Crimean peninsula in southern Ukraine.
On April 3, a car exploded and caught fire in the Bohdan Khmelnytskyi neighborhood in central Melitopol, injuring Maksym Zubarev, head of the pro-Russian administration in the village of Yakymivka.

Previously, on March 29, 10 explosions occurred in this city after heavy shelling by the Ukrainian army.
From the beginning of 2023, observers believe that the role of Melitopol city in the coming time will be extremely important, especially when this city acts as a gateway to help the Ukrainian army move closer to the Crimean peninsula.
At another gateway, Kherson, the Ukrainian army, although it captured the city of Kherson in late 2022, is believed to have great difficulty in overcoming the defense line on the left bank of the Dnieper River of pro-Russian forces. Therefore, a more feasible option for attacking the Crimean peninsula is through controlling the city of Melitopol.
To strengthen Melitopol's defenses, since the beginning of 2023, the Russian army has been urgently digging more trenches and building combat fortifications in this city area.
