Efforts to eliminate traffic safety hazards

During the exploitation process, some locations on the road traffic routes in the province have appeared "black spots", points with risks of traffic safety (ATGT). To "resolve" conflicting, complicated factors that potentially cause accidents for people and vehicles participating in traffic, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, specialized agencies, and localities have regularly coordinated to review and propose plans to improve infrastructure, ensuring safety for people's lives.

PRIORITIZE OVERCOMING “BLACK SPOTS”

Paying attention to investing in traffic infrastructure to minimize accidents caused by "black spots", the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee has recently focused on reviewing and coordinating with relevant sectors, units and localities to accurately count the current status of damaged and complicated traffic locations, thereby selecting appropriate solutions to ensure safety for people and vehicles participating in traffic.

Mr. Gia Thanh Hai - Deputy Chief of Office of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, said: “From the beginning of 2023 to now, the whole province has fixed potential traffic accident points at 12 locations on the roads in the province with a total cost of over 1.4 billion VND. Of which, Bac Lieu city fixed 4 locations, Vinh Loi district 1, Hong Dan district 4 and Dong Hai district 3 locations. The investment and completion of handling many potential traffic safety risk points has contributed to limiting traffic accidents, helping people travel safely".

As soon as Cao Van Lau Street (Bac Lieu City) was upgraded and expanded, at the intersection of this street and the approach road to Vuon Chim Bridge (Nha Mat Ward), traffic lights were installed, but the operation of green, yellow, and red lights was not suitable for actual conditions - vehicles traveling from Vuon Chim Bridge to Cao Van Lau Street could not stop at red lights due to the relatively large slope of Vuon Chim Bridge. Realizing this, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, the Department of Transport, and the Traffic Safety Committee of Bac Lieu City surveyed and agreed to install yellow flashing lights to warn of danger and paint speed-reduction lines to warn vehicles to reduce speed when traveling through the area.

Similarly, to overcome the complicated traffic situation with potential accidents at the intersection of 23/8 Street and the entrance to Tra Kha Industrial Park (Ward 8), the plan to paint speed-reducing lines to warn vehicles to reduce speed when passing through has been implemented. In the area of the Provincial Military Hospital on 23/8 Street, where people and vehicles are crowded in and out of the hospital, yellow flashing lights have been installed to warn of danger and speed-reducing lines have been painted at both ends to slow down vehicles when passing through the area. As for the intersection of Tran Phu Street with Road 11, Trang An Residential Area (Ward 7), speed-reducing lines have been painted at both ends of Tran Phu Street.

MINIMIZE TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

Like Bac Lieu City, Dong Hai, Hong Dan, and Vinh Loi districts regularly focus on fixing unsafe spots to minimize unfortunate traffic accidents.

After the survey team agreed, the Nam Can intersection on the Bac Lieu - Hung Thanh route (Vinh Loi district) has been installed with yellow flashing lights and painted with speed-reducing lines at both ends. On the district road connecting to the Bac Lieu - Hung Thanh route, yellow flashing lights have also been installed and speed-reducing lines have been painted to warn of danger to vehicles.

In Hong Dan district, additional pedestrian crossings and speed reduction lines will be painted at both ends of the curve to ensure traffic safety at the approach road to pier B of Ninh Quoi A bridge (within the curve, in front of Ninh Quoi A High School). For the intersection of Thong Nhat street and Tran Van Bay street (Ngan Dua town), install yellow flashing lights and paint speed reduction lines.

According to records, Dong Hai district also fixed many traffic safety problems on the Gia Rai - Ganh Hao route, such as the Go Cat intersection, the chosen solution was to install lighting at night in this area to ensure traffic safety. On the other hand, the sloping median strips on the route were painted, edited, and installed with additional soft plastic median strips, command signs at the ends of the steel median strips, and reflective decals on the top of the median strip pillars, which also contributed to ensuring traffic safety and order on the route. Or at the Dau Lang bridge intersection, previously the traffic through the area was very complicated, with high potential for traffic accidents. Since the speed reduction lines were painted and the intersection signs with priority roads were installed, the traffic situation has stabilized, limiting accidents.
