The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on August 18 (local time) when police asked two men on a motorbike to stop at a police checkpoint. While the station team was checking the vehicle's documents, one of the two subjects pulled out a pistol and fired at the police.

A shootout ensued and the motorcyclist was shot dead by police, while a local resident was injured and died in hospital. Three people were injured, including two police officers on duty at the checkpoint and the motorcyclist.

Armed criminals often ride motorcycles in groups of two and wear helmets to carry out illegal activities on the streets of the Philippines.
