Sharing at the workshop "Opening visas, restoring tourism " organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper on the morning of March 10, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, affirmed: Tourism plays an important role in the economy , with the characteristics of being inter-sectoral and inter-regional. In particular, after the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the tourism industry has received attention from ministries, branches and localities and many policies and solutions have been proposed to the Government. Since then, the tourism industry has also recovered quite quickly. In Ho Chi Minh City, the industry has also recovered and clearly contributed to the city's economy.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, spoke at the workshop on the morning of March 10.
However, the recovery is not synchronized between domestic and international visitors, mainly thanks to domestic visitors. However, domestic tourists spend only about 40-50% compared to international visitors. This makes it difficult for restaurants and hotels. For example, restaurants that have been set up to international standards to serve foreign guests cannot all be converted to serve domestic guests. Or the situation of hotels with no guests so they are put up for sale is quite common.
Therefore, Ms. Hoa suggested that it is necessary to consider removing visa policies, increasing the length of stay, and avoiding the situation where visitors in Vietnam have expired visas and have to go to neighboring countries to extend their visas and then return to Vietnam. That has limited the attractiveness of Vietnam as a destination in the eyes of tourists.
However, Ms. Hoa emphasized: The visa issue is only a part of sustainable tourism development, contributing more positively to the economy. But there is still a need to review and improve the website, interface, domain name and time to process e-visas. Along with that, information about visa policies is more frequent.
"Visa is the first button to encourage and motivate the tourism industry to develop. We hope that the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will pay more attention to advising the Government to have more flexible visa policies. At the same time, we hope to have a comprehensive solution for the tourism ecosystem, with policies to remove obstacles and promote tourism recovery," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa.
