Fertilizers and pesticides are indispensable materials in agricultural production. On the eve of the 2024 Prime Minister's Dialogue with Farmers Conference, Can Tho farmers proposed that the Government direct ministries, branches and localities to strengthen inspection and strictly manage the business and trade of fertilizers and pesticides.
When asked about his thoughts and recommendations to the Government, the Prime Minister, and relevant agencies, Mr. Ho Ba Phieu - an outstanding Vietnamese farmer from Trung Kien ward, Thot Not district, Can Tho city said:
"Currently, I have linked up to produce rice seeds on nearly 1,000 hectares, selling nearly 1,000 tons of rice seeds to the market each year. Rice production, including rice seeds, does not bring much profit, and even when facing risks of natural disasters, weather, and market risks, people can easily suffer losses.
"In order for rice farmers to feel secure in production and ensure food security, I would like to send a message to the Government, the Prime Minister , and leaders of the agricultural sector to create the best, most favorable conditions and provide the most optimal support for farmers growing rice on a large area and in large output to participate in the model of high-quality rice production to reduce emissions," said Mr. Ho Ba Phieu.

According to Mr. Ho Ba Phieu: During 18 years of direct production and association in rice seed production, he has achieved certain successes, but is also facing great difficulties and challenges.
"These are the OM18, OM5451, and DT8 rice varieties, the three main rice varieties in the Mekong Delta. Farmers produce these three rice varieties but are not allowed to sell certified varieties because they violate the copyrights of large companies and the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute. Is there any solution for units and businesses to share copyright benefits with farmers like us?" - Mr. Phieu expressed.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Vu, Farmers' Association of Thanh Thang Commune, Vinh Thanh District, Can Tho, is interested in managing the quality of fertilizers and pesticides.
Mr. Vu shared: Currently, agricultural production is facing many difficulties and potential risks such as: unusual weather, high tides, droughts, floods, and pests. In addition, the prices of fertilizers, pesticides, seeds, and harvesting services are all increasing.

Meanwhile, the selling price of agricultural products is not high, depends on the market, and profits are very low.
To reduce difficulties and input production costs for farmers, Mr. Vu suggested that the Government and the Prime Minister direct ministries, branches and localities to strengthen inspection and strictly manage the business and trading of pesticides on the market such as: unknown origin, low efficiency. At the same time, direct all levels and branches to continue researching more practical support and investment mechanisms for farmers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dan - Farmers' Association of Thot Not district again proposed to the Government and the Prime Minister on the management, reserve and exploitation of sand resources in a stable and long-term manner in the Mekong Delta.
Mr. Dan said: Recently, the hot situation is the serious shortage of input materials for construction projects, especially sand for key local and national construction projects. Poor management and rampant exploitation have caused changes in water flow and serious landslides in the provinces of the Mekong Delta.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dan assessed: With the efforts of the National Assembly, the Government and ministries, the recent time has been basically temporarily overcome and the progress of the projects has increased, soon completed to serve the needs of socio-economic development in the locality.
According to Mr. Dan, another ministry that also has an equal need for sand is sand for basic local construction projects, construction of industrial park infrastructure (including VSIP Vinh Thanh Industrial Park phase 1 with an area of 293.7 hectares) and sand for leveling for people's lives.
Currently, due to limited sand resources, the price of sand materials is very high (about 300,000 VND/m3), increasing construction costs.
To ensure a stable source of sand at a reasonable price, ensuring enough sand for the construction of key projects, ensuring sand for local construction and sand for the people, Mr. Nguyen Van Dan - Farmers' Association of Thot Not district proposed that the Government and the Prime Minister direct relevant ministries and branches to have effective solutions for the management, storage and exploitation of long-term stable sand resources of the Mekong Delta; as well as stabilizing sand prices and stable sand sources, contributing to promoting comprehensive and sustainable socio-economic development.
