Hard days

Immediately after Da Nang City was liberated, from April 5, 1975 to May 11, 1975, the People's Armed Police Command (now the Border Guard Command) mobilized 200 officers and soldiers of the People's Armed Police (CANDVT) from the provinces and cities of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong and Quang Binh to support the People's Armed Police of Quang Da Province (now the Border Guard of Quang Nam Province and Da Nang City), and deployed them to armed security stations and posts on the border, coast, port gates and airports.

Major General Le Van Phuc, Deputy Commander of the Border Guard, presented flowers to congratulate the Da Nang City Border Guard Command on the occasion of the Emulation Congress for Victory in the 2019-2024 period.

On January 6, 1996, at the 10th session, the 9th National Assembly issued Resolution No. 06 "On the division and adjustment of administrative boundaries of a number of provinces". Accordingly, Quang Nam - Da Nang province was divided into Quang Nam province and Da Nang city. On that basis, on December 31, 1996, Lieutenant General Pham Van Tra, Deputy Minister of National Defense signed Decision No. 2444/QD-BQP, dissolving the Quang Nam - Da Nang Provincial Border Guard Command, and newly establishing the Quang Nam Provincial Border Guard Command and the Da Nang City Border Guard Command. The division was carried out and completed on January 1, 1997.

Da Nang City has a national maritime border of more than 34km, a coastline along the tidal water line of 87km with 16 border wards in 5 districts (Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe, Hai Chau, Son Tra, Ngu Hanh Son) and Hoang Sa island district, posing a very heavy, difficult and complicated task for the city's Border Guard to manage and protect the ANBG sovereignty . Over the past 50 years, generations of officers and soldiers of the Border Guard of Da Nang City have continuously inherited and promoted the good qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, united and closely attached to the people, built a mass movement to protect the border, protect the Party, protect the socialist regime, protect the lives and property of the people.

In the years after liberation, the implementation of the tasks of the Border Guard of Da Nang City was extremely difficult and arduous due to the small number of soldiers, the security, political and social order and safety situation was extremely complicated. Due to not understanding the revolutionary policy, many people tried to cross the border by sea. Some bad guys took advantage of this to cheat people of money and gold and then left them adrift at sea. Therefore, in addition to the task of building the area, the stations and posts along the coast were extremely busy with the task of preventing illegal border crossing. On the one hand, officers and soldiers organized to prevent it, on the other hand, they had to increase their visits to the area to propagate so that people could understand, feel secure in doing business and not be deceived.

During the years 1998-2001, taking advantage of the State's open-door policy, many subjects organized smuggling from abroad to the coastal provinces of the Central region, seriously affecting security, order and sovereignty at sea. The name Tran Hoa (former Commander of the Da Nang City Border Guard, former Commander of the Border Guard) is still mentioned by many people today because he was the main force in many battles, notably the feat of "one hundred days at sea". Accordingly, the ships of the Da Nang City Border Guard are always on duty at sea, when they catch a smuggling ship, they will organize for other ships to tow it back to shore. That means the Border Guard soldiers follow the ship despite the wind and waves, and lack of supplies until the mission is completed. As a result, the Da Nang City Border Guard has caught hundreds of smuggling ships, confiscating tens of billions of dong worth of goods to be transferred to the State budget.

Marks of the new era

The development of Da Nang City has posed new challenges in the management and protection of the sea and island sovereignty of the Da Nang City Border Guard. To meet the task, the Party Committee and the Command of the Da Nang City Border Guard have issued many decisions, focusing on building a strong people's border defense. The propaganda work on the sea and islands has been deployed synchronously by the city Border Guard with many good and creative ways, such as combining propaganda work with implementing social security programs by organizing the giving of national flags, Uncle Ho's pictures, and life jackets to fishermen; sponsoring, mobilizing working days to build new and repair houses, organizing medical examinations, and giving free medicine to policy families and poor households; mobilizing cash support, bicycles and gifts for 255 poor students under the program "Helping you go to school - Adopted children of the Border Guard Station". Every time Tet comes, with the spirit of "Leaving no one behind", units have mobilized and coordinated with philanthropists to give away thousands of gifts worth billions of dong.

In recent years, the Border Guard Stations have also actively mobilized fishermen to participate in the Movement "All people participate in protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security in the new situation". Accordingly, the units have built and consolidated 94 safe and united seafood exploitation teams/680 ships; coordinated with localities to build 4 cultural coastal residential areas and 1 safe and cultural fishing port and dock; deployed 3 combined military-civilian clinics to examine and treat people for free. These activities aim to encourage fishermen to both go offshore and stick to the sea while protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands, build a strong enough reserve force, militia, and self-defense force with comprehensive quality and high combat power, thereby creating a seamless coastline - sea - island position, ready to transform into a people's war position when a situation arises.

With the emergence of many new types of synthetic drugs, the number of drug addicts increasing, the supply of drugs not being completely resolved, and the operation of entertainment and accommodation establishments still having many shortcomings, there are still many conditions for crimes and violations of drug laws to operate. The activities of criminal and economic criminals continue to develop complicatedly with many increasingly sophisticated plots and tricks, causing many negative consequences for society. In this situation, the Border Guard has stepped up professional measures, established many special projects, arrested the leaders of drug rings from the "drug hotbed" of Nghe An and Quang Tri provinces with kilograms of quantity; destroyed drug dens causing headaches in the locality; discovered many cases of arresting subjects specializing in supplying herbal essential oils and "happy water" to students...

In fact, the patrol ships of the Da Nang City Border Guard not only patrol to protect sovereignty and islands but also carry the mission of rescuing fishermen's boats that are in distress at sea. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the city's Border Guard advised the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the City People's Committee to direct localities to launch and sign the implementation of the Movement "All people participate in preventing and fighting the Covid-19 epidemic and illegal entry and exit". In particular, the Da Nang City Border Guard was one of the last forces to withdraw from the city's concentrated quarantine areas and epidemic prevention and control checkpoints. Many officers and soldiers received decisions on military rank promotion and salary increase at the Covid-19 epidemic prevention and control quarantine areas.

Up to now, more than 100 foreign military ships have docked at Tien Sa port (Da Nang), including the US, France, Russia, China, India, Japan, Australia... with nearly 40,000 crew members for the purpose of diplomatic and regular visits, search and rescue exercises at sea, humanitarian activities, and oceanographic surveys. For foreign military ships, the requirements for ensuring security and safety for ships and crew members are very high. The Da Nang Border Guard has synchronously deployed working measures from public to secret, coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs, PA18, PA35, and agencies in the port block to manage and supervise the activities of sailors. Many sailors whose property was lost were searched for and returned by Border Guard officers. These activities have contributed to creating the brand "Da Nang City - Safe and Friendly Destination".
