Donald Trump is "twisted" between 2 criminal cases

Former US President Donald Trump said Mr. Merchan had a conflict of interest because his daughter worked for the Democratic Party and benefited financially in the case.

Mr Trump also accused Mr Merchan of pushing former Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg to cooperate with prosecutors, which he said showed bias in the criminal case involving tax fraud.

Mr. Trump also pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records.

Meanwhile, Southern California District Judge Aileen Cannon has set a preliminary hearing date for Mr. Trump on federal charges that he knowingly retained classified government records and obstructed justice.

A court order issued on June 20 set the trial date for August 14, according to Reuters .

The US Justice Department's special counsel in the case - Mr. Jack Smith - has pledged that the trial will proceed quickly, following the 37-count indictment against Mr. Trump.

The complexities of handling highly classified evidence and Mr. Trump’s high-profile legal team pose certain challenges, but experts say the trial could still move quickly.

Lawyers for Mr Trump and a spokesman for the US Justice Department did not immediately respond to Reuters ' requests for comment.

The latest order comes after the court ordered Mr Trump's defence lawyers not to disclose evidence in the classified documents case to the media or the public.

Judge Bruce Reinhart's order also places strict conditions on Mr Trump's access to the documents.

Donald Trump was arraigned in federal court in Miami last week but has pleaded not guilty.
