Donald Trump wins the 2024 US presidential election

(CPV) - At noon on November 6, Vietnam time (ie the night of November 5, US time), the US media announced the preliminary vote counting results showing that Mr. Donald Trump won a convincing victory in the 2024 US presidential election, marking the spectacular return of the 78-year-old Republican candidate in contemporary US political history.

This is also Donald Trump's second term as the White House owner, after his first term from 2016 to 2020. Former President Donald Trump's victory made him the second President to be elected in non-consecutive election cycles in the US, after Democrat Grover Cleveland - who was elected the 22nd President in 1884 and the 24th President of the United States in 1892, with Republican Benjamin Harrison of Indiana holding the position of President in the intervening period. However, Donald Trump's term will be limited by the 22nd Amendment, meaning he will not be able to run for re-election in 2028.

Preliminary vote counts showed that as of 1:30 p.m. on November 6, Donald Trump had won the electoral votes exceeding the 270 electoral votes required by law, defeating Democratic rival Kamala Harris to become the 47th President of the United States. Accordingly, Donald Trump won an overwhelming number of electoral votes against Vice President Kamala Harris after he was said to have reversed his 2020 defeat in the key states of Georgia, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, along with winning more votes among white voters in rural areas and the working class, while making significant strides among minority groups in the US.

In this year’s race, the two candidates Donald Trump and Ms. Harris were considered to have maintained a “balance” until Election Day. The final results showed that Mr. Donald Trump defeated Vice President Harris in an election with many unexpected developments in 2024: A criminal trial involving Mr. Donald Trump took place right during the election campaign; Two failed assassination attempts on the former President and a change in the Democratic Party’s candidate list after President J. Biden announced his withdrawal from the race for the White House.

The former president's victory marked a pivotal moment for Republicans in this year's election, with the party expected to regain control of the Senate after four years in the minority.

Thousands of Harris supporters gathered on the campus of Howard University, where the vice president studied, to watch the results, expressing shock and even tears as their potential candidate was unable to win at the last minute. Meanwhile, in West Palm Beach, Florida, Donald Trump supporters cheered, clapped and cried as Fox News declared him the winner just before 2 a.m. on November 5.

Immediately after the results were announced, President-elect Donald Trump gave a celebratory speech to a large crowd of supporters in Palm Beach, Florida. The electoral colleges in each state are expected to meet on December 17 to cast their official electoral votes to elect Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States. Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony will take place on Capitol Hill on January 20, 2025./.
