“Forever Chemical” (PFAS) - is a strong chemical used in cosmetics, waterproofing, food containers, firefighting foam... can reduce fertility by up to 40% for women worldwide .
This is the result of a study recently published in the Journal of Science of the Total Environment, in which scientists from the Icahn School of Medicine (USA) conducted research on more than 1,000 healthy women in Singapore, divided into many groups and monitored for health before natural conception, measuring different levels of PFAS in plasma (photo)...
The researchers found that fertility was reduced by about 5%, 10% to 25% among those with the lowest PFAS exposure. But women exposed to high concentrations of the PFAS mixture had an average 30% to 40% reduction in their ability to become pregnant or give birth within a year.
In some previous studies, PFAS have been shown to disrupt reproductive hormones and have been linked to delayed puberty and an increased risk of endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome. However, the latest research suggests that PFAS may also reduce fertility in healthy women who are trying to conceive naturally. The researchers note that women should be aware of the dangers of PFAS and take precautions to avoid exposure to the chemicals, especially if they are trying to conceive.
