Must be more drastic in malaria prevention and control

On April 8, Mr. Dinh Van Thieu - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee had a working session with Khanh Vinh district on malaria prevention and control in the district.

According to the report of Khanh Vinh District People's Committee, from the beginning of the year to April 7, the district recorded 66 cases of malaria in 9 communes, of which Khanh Phu and Khanh Thuong communes had the highest number of cases with 23 cases/commune. The group of people with malaria is concentrated in localities near the edge of the forest, adjacent to the forest, with factors of going to the forest and sleeping in the fields. Regarding prevention and control work, the whole district has implemented many solutions, including impregnating 4,350 mosquito nets without long-lasting chemicals; spraying residual chemicals for 416 households in communes with high numbers of cases; providing 2,570 mosquito nets and 2,120 sets of hammocks covered with residual chemicals; organizing more than 20 blood collection and testing surveys; distributing more than 12,600 leaflets on malaria prevention and control, etc.

Currently, malaria prevention and control work in the district is facing some difficulties, such as people are still negligent and do not comply with sleeping under mosquito nets and hammocks treated with chemicals to prevent disease; the rate of people going to the forest and sleeping in the fields for many days is quite high; medical staff have difficulty accessing people exploiting forests and minerals...

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Dinh Van Thieu directed Khanh Vinh district to have more drastic solutions in malaria prevention and control, reducing the number of cases. In particular, focusing on promoting practical propaganda work such as instructing village elders and hamlets to directly communicate to people, combining with the village and commune broadcasting system, continuing to distribute leaflets; making a list of people who go to the forest and sleep in the fields for management, organizing the signing of commitments with people requiring them to sleep under mosquito nets. Mr. Dinh Van Thieu requested Khanh Vinh district to proactively source funds in malaria prevention and control, and propose the Provincial People's Committee to consider supporting necessary expenses that are not included in the regulations; the health sector must do a good job of treatment, fully prepare medicines, chemicals, and supplies for malaria prevention and control, etc.
