According to statistics from the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy , in 2023, Vietnam's e-commerce will achieve a growth rate of 25%, among the top 10 fastest growing countries in the world. Currently, e-commerce accounts for about 8% of total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue nationwide. From the above reality, along with the implementation of Decision No. 645/QD-TTg dated May 15, 2020 of the Prime Minister approving the Master Plan for National E-commerce Development for the period 2021 - 2025, many universities across the country have actively implemented e-commerce training activities.

Ms. Le Hoang Oanh - Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade attended and spoke at the launching ceremony.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Digital Business Student Competition, Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy Le Hoang Oanh said that in the current context, the digital economy has become a development trend, closely linked to life and business production. To meet the requirements of the new era, it is necessary to have a human resource that not only has a deep understanding of technology but also needs creativity, the ability to adapt quickly and a spirit of continuous learning.

The Digital Business Student Competition is a testament to the determination to develop young talents in the field of digital economy. This is a prestigious annual event organized by the Vietnam E-commerce Association, gathering a large number of students from many universities. The event is not only a playground, an opportunity for students to demonstrate their talents and intelligence, but also a talent incubator for Vietnam's digital economy.

According to the Organizing Committee, the 2024 Digital Business Student Competition promises to be a dramatic playground, with 4 main competition contents: Online Sales, Digital Marketing, Digital Business Ideas, and Green E-commerce - Reducing plastic waste.

The special feature of this year's competition is that the Green E-commerce competition is maintained to focus on the importance of environmental issues, especially when in 2023, Vietnamese e-commerce consumed up to 171 thousand tons of packaging and plastic materials (according to WWF's Vietnam E-commerce Packaging Plastic Waste Report 2023). With the growth rate of e-commerce, the amount of plastic waste is expected to continue to increase significantly by 2030.

Aiming to promote awareness and environmentally friendly solutions, this year's competition continues to focus on reducing plastic waste in e-commerce, with the support of the National Plastic Action Partnership in Vietnam (NPAP), UNDP Vietnam, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant stakeholders.

In addition to the environmental competition, other competitions also attracted a large number of teams, including: Online Sales, Digital Marketing, and Digital Business Ideas.

With the orientation to help students approach the most practical activities of e-commerce and digital economy, the Competition will create many opportunities to train the competition team in practical knowledge and business practice from leading experts. The winning teams will have a lot of support and good job opportunities after graduation. In particular, the schools with teams winning awards in each content group are also a testament to the top training quality in the country in each competition field.

Immediately after the competition launch ceremony, the Organizing Committee officially accepted registrations from teams and schools until September 28. The qualifying and semi-final rounds will be held from October 1 to December 5, 2024. The final round and award ceremony will take place next December.

The Digital Business Student Competition was first held in 2022. In 2023, the competition attracted more than 400 teams from 70 universities. After 2 seasons, the "Digital Business Student" competition has created a big buzz in the student community and e-commerce businesses. The competition received the participation of more than 700 teams with more than 3,000 students from more than 80 different universities across the country.
