Launching Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2025: Green technology for sustainable oceans

On June 6, at Ho Chi Minh Square (Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Quang Binh province to organize the National Launching Ceremony of Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2025.

According to Nhan Dan Newspaper, the ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Minh Ngan; representatives of the leaders of the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee of Quang Binh province; units under the Ministry; organizations and individuals operating in the field of marine resources protection and a large number of local people.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister Le Minh Ngan said: Vietnam is a maritime country with more than 3,200 km of coastline, thousands of large and small islands and a large exclusive economic zone. However, our country's marine resources are facing many challenges such as resource depletion, environmental pollution, climate change and pressure from international economic integration. Recognizing the role and importance of the sea, the Party and State have issued many strategic resolutions to build Vietnam into a strong maritime country, rich from the sea, developing sustainably, firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands.

Held annually since 2009, Vietnam Sea and Islands Week is a meaningful event, contributing to affirming the strategic role of the sea and islands in sustainable socio -economic development. This is also an opportunity for each citizen to express their love, responsibility and pride for their homeland's sea and islands. This year, with the theme "Green technology for sustainable oceans", Vietnam Sea and Islands Week spreads a strong message about the importance of technology, knowledge and innovation in developing a sustainable marine economy.

Deputy Minister Le Minh Ngan emphasized: “This year's theme conveys the hope of a green revolution in the ocean, placing technology at the forefront of modern ocean governance, from environmental monitoring systems using sensors, big data applications, to digitalizing marine spatial planning and fishing grounds management.”

The event is also part of a series of activities in response to World Oceans Day 2025 (June 8) with the global theme “Magical Oceans - Preserving the source of human life”. Thereby demonstrating Vietnam’s strong commitment to protecting marine resources, responding to climate change and building a blue ocean economy.
