According to the results of the implementation of the Project "Developing specialized aquaculture areas associated with the canal system of the Dau Tieng - Phuoc Hoa irrigation project", in Loc Ninh and Cau Khoi communes, the commercial soft-shell turtle farming area is being maintained with 58 households, with a total area of 2.8 hectares.
In parallel, the commercial snakehead fish farming area (black snakehead, white snakehead) has 30 households participating, with an area of 32.8 hectares; along with 12 mixed aquaculture facilities with 23.2 hectares. Notably, Hai Dang Joint Stock Company has invested in an intensive catfish farming project with an area of 33,856m². Currently, the project is completing the ponds, ready to stock in the near future.
In Truong Mit commune, there are currently 30 farms with a total area of nearly 4 hectares, mainly small-scale farms. This area has yet to have an investor to implement the project.
In the former Tan Bien district (now including Tan Lap, Tan Bien, Thanh Binh, Tra Vong, Phuoc Vinh, Hoa Hoi communes), there are a total of 32 aquaculture households with an area of 17.4 hectares. Of which, 27 households with 15.5 hectares are outside the planning area of the Project, while in Tra Vong commune, there are 5 households with 1.9 hectares in the planning area. Currently, this area has not attracted investors.
Along with the development of commercial farming areas, Tay Ninh province focuses on building and developing a system of seed production facilities to serve the needs of the province and outside. To date, there are 37 facilities producing and raising aquatic seeds. Of these, 4 facilities produce seeds of species such as catfish, tilapia, catfish and soft-shell turtles; the remaining facilities mainly raise traditional fish seeds, import fish fry to raise and supply to neighboring provinces.
Notably, two facilities have been granted certificates of eligibility for aquaculture production and breeding. Improving the quality of breeds is considered a key step to increase productivity and quality of commercial aquatic products in the region.
The project "Developing specialized aquaculture areas associated with the Dau Tieng - Phuoc Hoa canal system" for the period of 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, not only contributes to creating sustainable livelihoods for people but also effectively utilizes water resources from the region's large irrigation system. In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue to provide technical support, promote investment, and strengthen environmental management to ensure long-term and stable development of the local aquaculture industry./.
