At the time of admission, the patient had soft tissue damage, completely exposed leg bones, progressive infection and risk of limb amputation. The team of doctors from the Burn and Orthopedics Department urgently provided emergency treatment, irrigated the wound, removed necrotic tissue, and cleaned away foreign objects such as dirt and sand.
Doctors temporarily immobilize the bone with an external fixator - a method that allows effective control of wound progression while maintaining limb stability.
After two surgeries, the patient responded well to treatment and the infection was effectively controlled. As a result, the medical team successfully preserved the patient's left leg, avoiding amputation.
It is expected that in the next surgery, the external fixator will be removed and replaced with an internal bone fixation device.
This is an important treatment step to optimally restore motor function and ensure long-term aesthetic factors for children.
