At the same time, the Southern region also welcomed a new high tide, the water level measured in Vung Tau could reach 4m.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, an unseasonal cold air mass has just caused widespread rain from May 23 to 25 in the northern mountainous provinces and the North Central region. Many places recorded heavy rainfall of over 100mm, especially in Ha Tinh province with over 400mm of rain, causing early-season floods, dyke overflows and localized inundation.

This rain will temporarily stop on May 26 and 27, but from the evening of May 28 to May 29, the Northern and North Central regions will continue to experience moderate to heavy rain, with some places experiencing very heavy rain. The common rainfall is 30-80mm, with some places possibly exceeding 180mm in 24 hours. In particular, there is a warning of the risk of extremely heavy rain, with rainfall exceeding 100mm in just 3 hours.
A representative of the meteorological agency said that the cause of the heavy rain at the beginning of the season is because the El Nino phenomenon has weakened and is gradually shifting to the La Nina phase, causing cold air to be more active than usual and last until early summer (a rare phenomenon in May).
At the same time, in the South, high tides are on the rise. The hydrographic station in Vung Tau measured the water level at 0:30 this morning, May 26, at 3.74m. In the next 24-48 hours, the highest water level in this area could reach 3.9 to 4m, especially during the two high tide hours: 2-6am and 10-12am every day.
Coastal provinces in the East of the South, from Vung Tau to Ca Mau , especially low-lying areas, riverside areas, and outside dykes are warned of the risk of flooding in the evening and at night, accompanied by increased saltwater intrusion.
The meteorological and hydrological agency noted that people in both regions need to proactively take measures to prevent heavy rain, flooding and high tides, especially in areas with vulnerable terrain or densely populated areas.
