Teachers assessed the math exam for admission to 10th grade as having a familiar structure, similar to recent years, making it easy for students to approach, with many able to achieve 7.5 points or higher.

On the morning of June 11th, over 104,000 students completed the Math exam – the final subject for admission to public high schools. The Math exam consisted of five questions, including a 3-point geometry question, with a time limit of 120 minutes.

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Huong, Head of the Mathematics Department at Ly Thai To Secondary and High School (Cau Giay District), and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Deputy Head of the Natural Sciences Department 1 at Thanh Cong Secondary School (Ba Dinh District), both commented that the exam had a familiar structure, similar to previous years.

According to Ms. Hong, the question arrangement is logical, closely follows the curriculum and review materials, and ensures comprehensive coverage of students' knowledge and skills. The ratio of questions at the recognition and comprehension levels is approximately 70%, while those at the application and higher-level application levels account for about 30%.

Both teachers agreed that the final part of the geometry lesson and exercise 5 was the section for classifying students, similar to previous years.

Ms. Luong Thi Lien, Head of the 9th Grade Math Group at Thai Thinh Secondary School, Dong Da District, provided a more detailed analysis.

For question 1 (2 points), students can easily get 1.5 points for the first two parts. The third part, which requires finding the value of x, is slightly more advanced, demanding that students apply their knowledge flexibly and possess good presentation and calculation skills.

Similar to exercise 2, Ms. Lien assessed that solving math problems by setting up equations and systems of equations is a familiar type of problem that students have reviewed many times, so they will not have difficulty.

In question 3, the system of equations is not difficult, but students can easily lose points for missing or incorrect admission criteria, or for failing to check against the criteria to eliminate solutions. The part involving Vieta's theorem in this question is also at a basic level, requiring simple calculations.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Dang Van Thuy, a math teacher at Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School in Cau Giay district, believes that in previous years, the last part of question 1 and the last part of question 3 often contained "traps" designed to challenge students aiming for a score of 9. However, this year, these two parts do not contain misleading information, so average and above-average students can still get full marks.

Question 4 is the geometry section, and also the question worth the most points - 3 points. Ms. Lien commented that the first two parts were still at a basic level, but average students might find the second part difficult. As for the third part, because it's a question designed to differentiate students, they need to be able to analyze and connect it with previously solved questions and the problem's assumptions in order to find the proof.

"Only students with good analytical skills, who can reason and connect the angles of an inscribed quadrilateral, can do this, because the diagram is not easy to read," Ms. Lien said.

Question 5 is worth 1 point, intended to differentiate students. Ms. Lien commented that not many students were able to solve it.

Overall, teachers believe that students who are quite good and do their assignments carefully can easily achieve scores of 9 or higher. The number of scores of 9 this year will also be higher than in previous years. The peak of the score distribution will be concentrated around 7.5.

To be considered for admission to a general public high school (grade 10), candidates must complete all three exams: Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language, without violating any regulations and without receiving a score of 0 on any exam. The admission score is the sum of the Literature and Mathematics scores multiplied by a factor of two, along with the Foreign Language score and any priority points (if applicable).

Last year, among the 107,000 candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi , more than 1,380 candidates scored 9 or higher in Literature (1.29%), 256 students scored 10 in Mathematics (0.23%), and 3,364 students (3%) scored 10 in Foreign Language. Last year's top-scoring student in Hanoi achieved a total admission score of 48.5/50 (9.25 in Literature, 10 in Foreign Language and Mathematics).

Tomorrow, approximately 10,000 students applying to specialized high schools will take an additional specialized subject exam. The admission score for specialized 10th-grade classes is the sum of the scores from the three exams in Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language, plus the score in the specialized subject multiplied by a factor of two.

The exam scores and admission standards for Hanoi's public high schools this year will be announced on July 4th and July 8th-9th. Successful candidates will enroll online. From July 18th, schools that have not yet met their enrollment quotas will begin supplementary admissions.
