The only female Physics professor candidate in 2025 to study for a PhD in France

(Dan Tri) - Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Van is the only female candidate considered for the title of Physics professor in 2025.

Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Van is one of eight Physics professor candidates recommended by the Faculty Council for consideration in 2025. She is also the youngest professor candidate and the only female candidate on this list.

Ms. Thanh Van was born in 1980, from Binh Dinh, graduated with a degree in Applied Physics from the University of Natural Sciences , Ho Chi Minh City National University. She studied for a master's degree at this school before going to France to study and obtaining a PhD in Physics from the University of Science and Technology of Lille in 2011, at the age of 31.

Her teaching and research career is associated with the University of Natural Sciences in Ho Chi Minh City. She worked as a teaching assistant, then a lecturer in the Physics Department for 6 years, then moved to become a lecturer in the Department of Materials Science and Technology.

In 2017, at the age of 37, Ms. Thanh Van was appointed Deputy Head of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology. A year later (2018), she was appointed Head of the Faculty. She also held the position of Head of the Department of Magnetic and Biomedical Materials of this faculty. In the same year 2018, she was appointed Associate Professor.

Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Van has published 81 scientific articles, including 45 articles in prestigious international journals. She is currently a guest editor of a special issue of Q1 Ceramics International, published by Elsevier (a group of 25% of the world's leading scientific journals).

Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Van's main research directions are rare earth-doped luminescent materials applied in optoelectronics and anti-counterfeiting security; biomedical materials applied in dentistry, drug delivery and antibacterial/antibacterial; functional nanomaterials applied in photocatalysis, Raman sensors, optical sensors and energy fields.
