Soc Trang women join hands to build new countryside

STO - Joining hands to build new rural areas has become an emulation movement that attracts a large number of cadres and women's union members in Soc Trang province to actively participate. Since then, it has contributed to changing the face of the countryside, making a positive contribution to the socio-economic development of the locality.

Urgent action

According to comrade Tran Thi Kim Phuong - Vice President of the Women's Union of Soc Trang province, in the spirit of direction, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Union has urgently issued many documents to implement the national target program such as: instructions on implementing the assessment of new rural and advanced new rural criteria at the commune level, period 2021 - 2025; implementing the components of the National Target Program on new rural construction, period 2021 - 2025; "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean" and "a family of 5 yes, 3 clean"; "Protecting the environment, saying no to plastic waste" period 2021 - 2025; "Soc Trang women join hands to build new rural areas" period 2021 - 2025; campaign "Building a family of 5 no's, 3 clean's, protecting the environment"... In addition, the association also actively participated in contributing opinions to the draft Promulgation of the set of criteria for new rural cultural households, new rural cultural hamlets and model new rural roads in the province; contributing opinions to the draft guidelines for implementation, assessment, recognition of meeting criteria and recognition of communes meeting new rural standards, advanced new rural standards in Soc Trang province, period 2021 - 2025.

With flexible forms, adapting to the actual situation in the locality, the association at all levels has promoted propaganda work among cadres and women's union members through many forms. In particular, focusing on propaganda on social networks, media agencies and direct propaganda, especially at regular monthly meetings of groups, teams and clubs. As a result, in 5 years, 3,970 propaganda meetings were conducted with 111,160 women attending and 313,651 member households were mobilized to participate.

Not only that, the Provincial Women's Union Standing Committee also directed 100% of the grassroots associations to develop a plan to mobilize and support more member families to achieve the criteria of the campaign "5 no, 3 clean" (for new rural communes) and "5 yes, 3 clean" (for advanced new rural communes). In 2022, the Provincial Association selected An Thanh 1 commune (Cu Lao Dung district) and in 2023, selected Hau Thanh commune (Long Phu district) to pilot the campaign "Family 5 yes, 3 clean". Particularly for the remaining new rural and advanced new rural communes, the association implemented activities in groups, teams, and clubs on the criteria for advanced new rural communes (Indicator No. 18.7 on the rate of households with bathrooms, hygienic water storage facilities, safe toilets and ensuring 3 cleans under criterion No. 18) and other coordinated activities attracting more than 242,379 women to participate.

In order to promptly support communes in completing procedures and documents to be recognized as new rural communes and advanced new rural communes, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Women's Union has coordinated with all levels of the union to conduct an assessment of the implementation of a number of criteria for new rural construction. The Soc Trang Provincial Women's Union also developed a project "Building 3 clean families, implementing target 17.8 in the national criteria set for new rural communes in the period of 2021 - 2025", approved by the Provincial People's Committee through the direct support of the New Rural Coordination Office.

High efficiency

Comrade Tran Thi Kim Phuong said that every year, 108 communes, wards and towns complete the registration with the Party Committee and authorities, register practical and suitable works/tasks to participate in building new rural areas and civilized urban areas (achieving 100% of the plan). Notable are meaningful and practical works and tasks such as: Model road; "Self-managed women's road" project; 3 clean model "Clean house, clean kitchen, clean alley"; "My house is green, clean, beautiful" model; "Rural flower route" model; "Rural flower route, bright, green, clean, beautiful" model. At the same time, the association's facilities plant flowers on both sides of rural roads, shade trees, build roadsides, recycled flower gardens at souvenir and traditional steles areas, clean sidewalks, around offices, houses, alleys, dispose of garbage in designated places, do not let architectural objects encroach on sidewalks and roadsides on routes registered for urban civilized road construction...

In the past 5 years, the Provincial, District, Town and City Women's Unions have coordinated with relevant sectors to organize 25 competitions to learn about environmental protection knowledge and plastic waste prevention associated with the campaign "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean" with many diverse and rich forms. Notably, the Provincial Union has effectively utilized capital sources to implement new rural areas. Specifically, from the capital source of the Clean Water Environmental Sanitation Project managed by the Provincial Women's Union, 320 members have been supported to build hygienic latrines with an amount of over 1.6 billion VND. Currently, this project continues to coordinate with the Friends project (sponsored by UNICEF) to appraise and consider loans for 120 households in need of loans to repair and build new hygienic latrines in 6 communes of Long Phu and Tran De districts.

The Provincial Women's Union has well implemented the activities of entrusting the Social Policy Bank, managing 898 groups/43,498 participating members. At the same time, it has taken advantage of the support of the Central Union and sponsors to coordinate the implementation of activities contributing to the implementation of new rural construction targets. From forms of support through economic models such as: loans, vocational training introduction, job introduction, opening training classes on livestock and crop farming techniques... all levels of the union help women with capital for small business, livestock and crop farming and knowledge to develop the family economy. Thanks to that, 1,236 women members have escaped poverty and 595 households have escaped near poverty.

For the purpose of environmental protection, the associations at all levels have promoted activities such as: responding to the campaigns "Let's clean the sea", "Green Sunday", "Solving plastic and nylon pollution", "Garbage-free canals", "Women say no to nylon bags"... All have contributed positively to raising awareness, changing environmental protection habits for the community and coastal areas, attracting 4,620 participants. The associations at all levels also mobilized members, women who are owners of food production and business establishments, restaurants, and traders at markets to increase the reuse of nylon bags, use more environmentally friendly products, attracting more than 1,580 women members, communities, and authorities and departments to respond and participate. In particular, the association at all levels has established 103 groups and clubs to protect the environment, say no to single-use plastic products, women's groups to limit the use of plastic bags, women's groups to turn waste into poultry, women's groups to turn waste into money, women to collect inorganic waste to raise funds and the media event "Change single-use plastic waste"...

The active participation of women's associations at all levels in recent times has contributed to raising awareness of cadres, members and people about consciousness and responsibility. It is important to actively promote the internal strength of the community in participating in the implementation of the new rural construction program, promoting local socio-economic development.
