At the recent 2023 Phu Yen Province Traditional Martial Arts Tournament for all ages, the Xuan Son Nam Traditional Martial Arts Club (Dong Xuan District) won second place overall. This was an interesting surprise of the tournament and the person who deserves praise for his tireless efforts to develop the traditional martial arts movement in Dong Xuan District is Coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim.
Dedicated to the profession
Coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim (born in 1987), currently works at Xuan Son Nam Commune Police. He comes to traditional martial arts with passion and responsibility. “Martial arts teachers always take morality as the most important thing, hoping to gain the trust of martial arts students and parents. I always strive to develop traditional martial arts, thereby helping martial arts students see the value of the nation's martial arts,” said the coach from Xuan Dai Ward, Song Cau Town.
In 2001, Nguyen Ngoc Nhim came to traditional martial arts, belonging to the first generation of the Kim Long sect. Talking about traditional martial arts sects, Mr. Nhim said that each sect has the quintessence of moves and the beauty of martial arts. But the most important thing is how to keep Vietnamese traditional martial arts always in the minds of many sports and martial arts fans in Phu Yen. "This requires the solidarity of coaches, martial arts schools, sects and the guidance of the most responsible people in the Phu Yen Traditional Martial Arts Association", said coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim.
With more than 10 years of experience in traditional martial arts, Coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim has always been dedicated to his profession. Many people see him sometimes teaching at clubs in Song Cau Town, sometimes at the Phu Yen Youth Activity Center. Wherever he is, Coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim still maintains his passion, works quietly, and contributes to the overall development of traditional martial arts in Phu Yen.
In 2019, with the desire to open a traditional martial arts club, create a sports playground for students and join hands to develop this martial art movement, he received the attention of the locality and authorities. This is the foundation for Xuan Son Nam Traditional Martial Arts Club to achieve success at the 2023 Traditional Martial Arts Tournament for all ages in Phu Yen province, recently held in Dong Hoa town.

Sweet fruit of effort
In Dong Xuan district, there are currently 2 traditional martial arts training locations that attract many martial artists to practice: Xuan Son Nam Traditional Martial Arts Club and Kim Phong Martial Arts School (Xuan Quang 2). To participate in the Phu Yen Province Traditional Martial Arts Tournament for all ages, units will register with the locality and receive financial support from sports people in Dong Xuan district.
However, for many reasons, Xuan Son Nam Club did not receive this funding. Coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim did not give up the opportunity to help martial artists exchange and compete. Through social mobilization sources, Coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim had enough funding to register 11 athletes to participate in the tournament in Dong Hoa Town. This was a great effort by Coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim, without passion and responsibility, it would be very difficult to do.
Understanding the efforts and responsibilities of the teachers, the athletes of Xuan Son Nam Traditional Martial Arts Club competed excellently, winning 6 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 2 bronze medals, surpassing famous clubs, winning second place overall. This is an encouraging achievement for a martial arts club in a locality with many difficulties.
“Before the tournament, I had the athletes practice very carefully, especially the forms. I think that the forms play an important role in the development of the traditional martial arts movement in the province, because when the martial artists practice, they will understand the value and meaning of the moves in the traditional martial arts of the nation. However, if there are outstanding individuals in the combat content, we will nurture and train them to compete in a professional environment, satisfying their passion,” said coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim.
The achievement of placing 2nd in the overall team at the 2023 Phu Yen Province Traditional Martial Arts Tournament for Youth has motivated the coaches and martial artists at the Xuan Son Nam Traditional Martial Arts Club. According to coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim, he is planning to open a training site in Phu Mo Commune (Dong Xuan District), if there is support and assistance from functional agencies and local authorities. This is an opportunity to provide a sports playground for students in disadvantaged areas and also an opportunity to develop the traditional martial arts training movement, according to the criteria set by the Phu Yen Traditional Martial Arts Association.
Mr. Tran The Vinh, Vice President of Phu Yen Traditional Martial Arts Association, commented: “Coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim is one of the outstanding young people of the martial arts movement. Ngoc Nhim is very enthusiastic and persistent in pursuing traditional martial arts with the heart of a martial artist. The achievements of Xuan Son Nam Traditional Martial Arts Club recently achieved at the Traditional Martial Arts Tournament for all ages in Phu Yen province have a great contribution from Coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim. I hope that in the coming time, Coach Nguyen Ngoc Nhim will continue to promote his youth, passion and seriousness with the profession, thereby not only contributing to the development of the traditional martial arts movement, but also helping and finding athletes for the Phu Yen Traditional Martial Arts team to compete in national tournaments.”
