Towards smart rural areas
Pleiku City has 14 wards and 8 communes with 175 villages, hamlets, and residential groups, including 37 ethnic minority villages. Mr. Tran Tan Quang, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Pleiku City, said: “With the aim of improving the quality of criteria of communes that have met the new rural standards, building ethnic minority villages into residential areas with bright-green-clean-beautiful landscapes and environments; preserving traditional cultural identities, the city has implemented many tasks and solutions suitable to the actual conditions of each locality. Party committees and authorities, especially the heads, have clearly defined responsibilities in leadership, direction, organization and implementation, and assigned specific tasks to cadres in charge of building new rural villages among ethnic minorities, considering this a key and regular task”.
The mobilization of the entire political system, agencies, units, and enterprises to support poor ethnic minorities and disadvantaged households in localities and villages to build new rural villages has been effective. In particular, localities have stepped up propaganda and mobilization on the new rural construction program to maximize the role of the people as the main subject in building comprehensively developed residential areas and ensuring security and order.

The City People's Committee issued Plan No. 1362/KH-UBND dated May 5, 2023 on implementing the Digital Transformation Program in New Rural Construction, towards Smart New Rural Construction in the period of 2021-2025. The goal of the Plan is to promote the application of digital technology in New Rural Construction to contribute to promoting the rural economy, improving the quality of people's lives, and gradually narrowing the gap in service quality between rural and urban areas.
Over the past 6 years, the whole city has mobilized nearly 77 billion VND to implement the construction of new rural villages. Of which, direct capital from the National Target Program on New Rural Construction is nearly 1.3 billion VND; city budget capital is 3.5 billion VND; commune budget capital is nearly 39 billion VND; combined capital from programs and projects is nearly 25 billion VND; people contributed nearly 8 billion VND. In addition, localities have mobilized nearly 1,550 working days to repair and upgrade rural roads, build cultural communal houses, houses and other auxiliary works. People have also donated 22,473 m2 of residential land and garden land to build community activity houses, village halls and rural roads.
The “sweet fruit” after many years of implementing the construction of new rural villages in Pleiku is that people’s awareness has been raised; rural traffic infrastructure has been increasingly invested in and improved; people’s income has been gradually improved; spiritual life has been focused on; and security and order have been maintained stably.
“The city continues to focus on mobilizing the strength of the entire political system so that the construction of new rural villages in ethnic minority areas becomes a nationwide movement. The assignment of tasks in charge of each part of the implementation of building new rural villages is associated with emulation and reward work and assessment of the level of task completion of each cadre, party member, union member, and association member. Currently, there are 2 villages being submitted to the City People's Committee for consideration and recognition of meeting new rural standards in 2023: Village C of Gao commune and Village Teng 1 of Tan Son commune,” said Mr. Quang.
