>> Pung Luong overcomes difficulties to build new rural areas
>> Pung Luong strives to reach the new rural finish line
>> Yen Bai : Pioneer in building Pung Luong tea brand
Pung Luong today has really had a new look. That new look is reflected in 100% of the commune roads, nearly 90% of the intra-village and inter-village roads and 76% of the alleys being concreted, ensuring convenient travel all year round; the national grid lights up 8/8 villages, 96% of the households; 96% of the households have spacious, solid, 3-hard houses replacing temporary, dilapidated houses.
There is also a communal cultural house hall with a capacity of 250 seats, 8/8 village cultural houses with a capacity of 80 seats or more are solidly built, with entertainment and sports areas for children and the elderly according to regulations, contributing to the development of the sports, cultural and artistic movements.
People's lives in the commune are increasingly improved, the economy has also changed significantly. Thanks to many support policies, Pung Luong has developed over 75 hectares of fruit trees such as pears, Australian plums, crispy persimmons, French peaches... with an income of 500 million VND/year; established 3 agricultural service cooperatives, 1 medicinal seed joint stock company, 46 cooperatives participating in production linkage associated with product consumption.
People have actively invested in taking good care of the tea and forest areas, and contracted for protection. Up to now, the commune has had 2 tea products certified as achieving 3-star OCOP. By the end of 2024, the average income per capita of the commune will reach 45.5 million VND, the poverty rate will decrease to 8.3%, the near-poor household rate will decrease to 1.95%; 7/8 villages will achieve NTM status.
Traffic, income, poor households, cultural facilities, etc. are criteria that are considered difficult to implement in building new rural areas, especially difficult in mountainous areas and areas with special difficulties such as Pung Luong. However, with the participation of the entire political system, strengthening the role of the people as the main subject along with the "6 people" regulations (people know, people discuss, people do, people check, people supervise and people benefit), Pung Luong has completed these difficult criteria.
In 2024 alone, the commune completed 5 criteria. In 2025, Pung Luong still has 3 unfinished criteria, including: criterion 17 on environment, criterion 18 on political system, access to law and criterion 19 on national defense - security. The commune has organized a review, identified what needs to be done and determined to complete the missing component indicators in each criterion to reach the finish line.
Specifically: with criterion 17, the commune has continued to monitor the implementation of 2 clean water projects, propagated and mobilized people to buy mini water purifiers so that at least 20% of people use clean water, built 12 more collection tanks in the fields; actively carried out propaganda work for people on protecting the living environment, planting trees, moving livestock barns away from home, cleaning livestock barns, collecting and treating manure and livestock wastewater to ensure requirements according to regulations.
Chairman of the People's Committee of Pung Luong Commune - Thao A Pao said: "Up to now, criterion 17 has basically been completed. As for criteria 18 and 19, the commune has proposed that the district recruit 1 more civil servant for the statistical office; at the same time, propose solutions for each cadre, party member, and socio-political organization to further promote the spirit of exemplary behavior, actively propagate widely, raise awareness and consciousness of the people about the harmful effects of social evils, especially drug abuse, and sanctions for violations to each person. At the same time, diversify forms to improve the quality of propaganda work on the harmful effects of social evils; focus on propaganda, education, and training for the younger generation, students, and university students while they are still in school to create more profound changes".
Determination and great efforts to fulfill the unachieved criteria are the tasks that Pung Luong commune is focusing on. The continued attention and investment of the State in building infrastructure, together with the guidance, assistance and timely removal of difficulties from the Steering Committee for New Rural Development at all levels will help Pung Luong complete the criteria on schedule.
