Vietnam - Cambodia relations bring benefits to both peoples

That was the sharing of President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen at the 80th Anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) held on the evening of August 21 in the capital Phnom Penh. The event was organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia with the participation of senior Cambodian leaders, many international guests, businesses and the Vietnamese community living and studying in Cambodia.

According to the Vietnam News Agency, the ceremony was attended by President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Khuon Sudary, Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Samdech Men Sam An; along with senior leaders of the CPP, the Royal Government, the Senate and the National Assembly of Cambodia.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu reviewed the heroic 80-year journey of the Vietnamese people since independence, emphasizing that the great achievements in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland are a solid foundation for the country to enter a new era of development.

The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam and Cambodia are two neighboring countries with close ties, having shared difficulties in the struggle for independence and continuing to stand side by side in the current cause of construction and development. The relationship between the two countries has been diligently cultivated by generations of leaders and people, and is increasingly developing comprehensively, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries in many fields: politics , defense - security, economy, trade, health, education, science - technology and people-to-people exchange.

Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu emphasized that the presence of high-ranking Cambodian leaders at the Anniversary Ceremony is a vivid demonstration of the solidarity, traditional friendship and close ties between the two peoples. In just the past few months, President of the Senate Samdech Hun Sen has made two visits to Vietnam to attend the Vietnam - Cambodia Summit (February 2025) and the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 2025) and he will soon attend the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in Hanoi .

Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu expressed: "I believe that, with the determination of both sides, the friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between our two countries will be raised to a new height, meeting the aspirations of the people of both countries."

On behalf of the Cambodian legislature, executive branch and people, President of the Senate Samdech Hun Sen sent congratulations to the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam on the important occasion. He affirmed that Vietnam's Independence Day 80 years ago was not only a historical turning point for the Vietnamese people but also became a driving force for Southeast Asian countries, including Cambodia, to rise up and fight for independence.

Mr. Hun Sen emphasized that Cambodia always attaches importance to the close relationship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, built on the spirit of “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability”. He also expressed his deep appreciation for the support and sacrifices that the people of the two countries gave each other during difficult historical periods, affirming: “This is a historical truth that no force can overturn or change”.

According to the President of the Cambodian Senate, the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship brings benefits to both peoples and contributes to maintaining peace, stability and sustainable development in the region. He expressed his hope that the two countries will continue to promote cooperation in key areas such as defense, security, education, health, energy, tourism, culture, science and technology.

The celebration took place in a joyful and friendly atmosphere with performances praising the country and people of Vietnam and the traditional relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia. In particular, the space for displaying and promoting tourism and products of Vietnamese enterprises in Cambodia contributed to introducing the potential for trade and investment cooperation to Cambodian partners and international friends.
