Quang Ninh: Van Don Special Zone Armed Forces urgently respond to storm Matmo

Before storm Matmo (storm No. 11) made landfall, the Defense Command of Region 3 - Van Don Special Zone urgently activated a plan for natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue.

Storm Matmo is forecast to have a major impact on the northeastern region of Quang Ninh province from the night of October 5 to the early morning of October 6. Given the complex developments and strong intensity of the storm, the Defense Command of Region 3 - Van Don Special Zone (Quang Ninh Provincial Military Command) has activated a plan for natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue.

Military, police and militia units coordinated to propagate and guide people to secure their houses and anchor their boats safely. More than 1,000 watercraft in the areas of Ao Tien, Cai Rong, Tran Island and Co To were brought to storm shelters.

Local armed forces organized working groups to go down to cages and households to support and inspect, and at the same time, prepare rescue vehicles and equipment when the storm arrives.

Specifically, by 12 noon on October 5, at Ao Tien port area, there were 89 ships and boats; Cai Rong port had 170 ships and boats, 57 cages and rafts; at Tran Island there were 31 vehicles; at Co To Special Zone there were 544 vehicles, of which, there were 468 ships and boats with engines and 76 rafts and rafts without engines in safe shelters.
