How long is the car's lifespan?

According to Decree 95/2009/ND-CP, regulations on the age of automobiles are not only a management measure but also a commitment of the state to ensure traffic safety. For cargo vehicles, the maximum age of use is 25 years. This regulation aims to prevent the abuse of old vehicles that do not meet safety standards in transporting goods.

For passenger cars, the service life is limited to 20 years. This reflects the special requirements of passenger cars, which are often subject to complex factors such as load and operating conditions. In particular, for cars converted from other types of vehicles to passenger cars before 1 January 2002, the service life is limited to 17 years, in order to minimize safety and environmental risks.

How to determine the age of a 4-seat family car?

According to Circular 21/2010/TT-BGTVT, the determination of the usage period of a 4-seat family car is based on many specific technical criteria. The vehicle usage period is calculated from the year of manufacture and is determined through factors such as the vehicle identification number (VIN), chassis number, technical documents from the manufacturer, information on the manufacturer's label and archived records such as quality certificates, factory quality inspection certificates.

If a car does not have all of these necessary documents and information, it will be considered to be past its useful life. This shows the importance of maintaining and updating car information to ensure that the vehicle is always in safe and standard condition when operating on the road.

The role of the Vietnam Register in managing vehicle usage years

The Vietnam Register plays an important role in managing and supervising the implementation of regulations on the age limit of automobiles. According to Circular 21/2010/TT-BGTVT, the Vietnam Register is responsible for organizing propaganda, guidance and inspection of motor vehicle registration units nationwide. The Department is also responsible for compiling and notifying the list of vehicles that have expired their age limit to competent authorities such as the Traffic Police Department and local Traffic Inspectorate to strengthen management and supervision.

In addition, the Vietnam Register must also handle issues arising from complaints and denunciations and report the results to the Ministry of Transport annually. The correct and serious implementation of these tasks plays an important role in ensuring safety and transparency in the management of motor vehicles nationwide.
