The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has appointed the current Board of Directors of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, including Director Nguyen Van Hieu and Deputy Directors Nguyen Bao Quoc, Duong Tri Dung, Le Thuy My Chau, Huynh Le Nhu Trang, Nguyen Thi Nhat Hang, Nguyen Van Phong, Truong Hai Thanh, Tran Thi Ngoc Chau, Phan Ke Toai.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has its headquarters at 66 - 68 Le Thanh Ton, Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

The locality has the largest number of students in the country.

According to data released by the Departments of Education and Training at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, before the merger, the old Ho Chi Minh City had 1,707,220 students; Binh Duong province had about 520,700 students; and Ba Ria - Vung Tau province had about 300,000 students.

Thus, after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City now has about 2.6 million students, the most in the country.

School size from kindergarten to high school

Also according to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, before the merger, Ho Chi Minh City had 2,341 schools, including 1,308 kindergartens, 529 primary schools, 299 secondary schools, 205 high schools...

Previously, Binh Duong province had 713 schools of all levels, including 375 public schools and 338 non-public schools.

Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has 463 schools, including 195 kindergartens, 139 primary schools, 91 secondary schools and 38 high schools.

Thus, after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City now has about 3,500 schools from kindergarten to high school.

More than 110,000 teachers at all levels

Similarly, according to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the old Ho Chi Minh City had 80,612 teachers. Of which, there were 26,889 preschool teachers; 23,155 primary school teachers, 18,125 secondary school teachers and 12,442 high school teachers.

Binh Duong province has about 16,000 teachers, of which 14,883 are teachers and 1,048 are managers...

Similarly, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province previously had about more than 16,000 teachers at all levels.

Thus, after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City now has more than 110,000 teachers.

  • 10 continuing education centers.
  • 1 center for continuing education - Professional development.
  • 3 centers to support the development of inclusive education for people with disabilities.
  • 1 center for comprehensive technical education and vocational guidance.
  • 1 foreign language and information technology center.
  • 1 Information and educational program center.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that for the time being, it will maintain the payroll and number of employees of the departments and public service units under the three previous Departments of Education and Training. At the same time, it will develop a roadmap to streamline the payroll by at least 20% of civil servants and public employees receiving salaries from the state budget to reduce payroll according to the plan to arrange and streamline the organizational apparatus of ministries, departments, branches and localities in accordance with the roadmap for implementing policies stipulated in Decree No. 178/2024/ND-CP, amended and supplemented by Decree No. 67/2025/ND-CP.

Facilities remain intact, work is arranged in 3 areas to ensure work is handled promptly, continuously and without interruption.
